Herbert Bayer - Lonely Metropolitan (1932)
I originally sourced this photograph from Dawn Ades book ‘Photomontage’ (Link below). Straight away, I was intrigued by how unique it was. There are many things that capture the viewers eye to make such an inviting photograph, like the fact the two eyes are different colours, or the strong contrast of the photograph.
My personal reaction to this photo is that the hands are symbolising someone looking through the building windows, but hiding behind their hands to provide secrecy.
