Caring for a loved one can be very rewarding, but it can also be stressful especially when it is a long-term arrangement and there is no cure for what ails your loved one. If you are a regular caregiver of someone with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, you need to take a break from time to time for your own wellbeing. One of the tips experts suggest to get the caregiving help you need is to look into respite care.
At MorningStar at Bear Creek, we offer caregivers the chance to feel comfortable about taking a well-deserved break by providing your loved one with a warm and loving temporary home. Our entire community is devoted to providing holistic memory care that is designed to nurture the essence of the individual and reaffirm their dignity and value. In addition we are set up to care for those in the early onset of the disease right through to the most advanced stages.
As a short-term respite care resident, your loved one will get all of the amenities and services we provide for our permanent residents. This includes three daily meals prepared by our own Executive Chef that are geared toward encouraging the appetite of those with dementia. In addition all of our respite care residents participate in our wellness programs and activities, special events and scheduled outings.
To ensure the comfort and safety of your loved one, we provide 24-hour care, medication management and group transportation. Furthermore, our respite care suite (subject to availability) is fully furnished so all you need to do is bring your loved one’s personal items. Please visit our website to learn more about our community and for contact information on respite care as well as our day program. You deserve a break from your 24/7 caregiving responsibilities.
MorningStar at Bear Creek is a memory care community that uses progressive methods to palliate symptoms and revive joy. Our foundation is built on honoring God, valuing our seniors and hiring staff with a felt calling to serve, and is devoted to creating a true home for residents within a serene setting. Please contact us to schedule a visit to experience firsthand our loving community.
Speaking of respite care...caregivers? Don’t act like it’s “for someday when...”
You could break your leg or have a stroke tonight. Don’t put it off. Start preparing NOW.
Your 98 year old grandma with end stage Alzheimer’s could outlive you even though you’re 34.
A member of my choir dropped dead of a heart attack at 66 years old. He was healthy and he still died. Luckily he had no family members dependent on him, but what if he did?

Day 2 of being a respite foster carer.. this has been my only break so far 😅I'm on the loo.. Moana is playing in the living room, my kitchen is a mess.. but it all feels very right. I have waited a very long time to be a foster carer and not the foster child.. I never thought I could do it, and yet.. here I am!! 7 years after leaving care, and a lot of hard work later, not only am I carer.. but I feel very capable. Like I'm not just managing but I'm actually doing a good job?!?!!
I cant believe how nervous I was about this. Everything is good, better than good.
I. Need. To. Go. To. Grad. School. I just want to have the job that I want. I don't want to do respite care or ABA much longer. I'm already starting to feel burned out and I'm going on my fifth month of working as an aid and my second day of working as an ABA tech. These hours suck. I just want a consistent schedule. These jobs kind of suck, too. I mean no harm by saying this, but I don't want to work with the populations that I'm working with. I want to work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, maybe even PTSD. I want to work with teenagers and young adults who have goals in mind. I know this is good experience, but I don't have the patience to work these jobs and not go to school for what I want to do.
We made a rule that the kittens don't leave my office because there are a thousand places to hide in our house and kittens don't come when they're called 🙃
It's an adjustment seeing all my weaknesses under a magnifying glass.
Making things together is fun. Doing dishes alone is less fun :/ At least it's only two days a week that I have an extra messy kitchen!
