Hello! I had an awesome dream where you wrote a Peter Parker Spiderman fic! It was about the damage superpowered people cause when they're superheroing/ villaining, and who's responsible for the emotional damage of normal people. There was this villain who was traumatized by Spiderman and he wanted revenge. The fic ended with the villain winning the trial, and closed with a picture of young Peter Parker looking like a child (ie it was early days!Spidey) and it was such a big emotional punch! 1/2

And then I WOKE UP and I was like - no. Noooooo but I can see the AO3 page with the 'lettered' author in the AO3 font *so clearly* but clearly I dreamt this 25k fic up and now I cannot read it DDD: 2/2

This sounds amazing. I'm sorry that I will never write 25k of Spiderman fic. As for the damage superpowered people cause when they're superheroing and who's responsible for the emotional damage of normal people, that sounds like a very interesting premise and one I'd be totally down to write, if I hadn't already shot my wad ten years ago writing about the questionable ethics of superheroes in Responsible Science.

Wild that that was ten years ago, right? It's actually 11.

Do you have any Bruce Banner centric fic recs? Not fussed about pairings. I've read a few that I thought were quite good, and Responsible Science is among my absolute favourite portrayals of Bruce because he's such a fascinating character there. Honestly wish more people would write fic like that.

I’m glad you enjoyed Responsible Science. Those fics mean so much to me. I am afraid that Bruce Banner-centric fics are so hard to find that I gave up. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help. <3

5. What’s your favorite scene in Responsible Science?

I can’t choose between two from The Kids Weren’t Alright.  1) When everyone else gets re-aged except Bruce, he freaks out, and Natasha comes to get him, and 2) When Tony has to do a scan of kid!Bruce and keeps joking around to set kid!Bruce at ease, but it only makes kid!Bruce more tense, and Tony finally has to ask Natasha for help.

I love those scenes because they do my favorite thing, which is being trapped in the narrator’s head but knowing what the other characters are thinking while the viewpoint character doesn’t get it really. 

But also I love the first one because I have felt that anger and that shame, and also what it feels like to come down out of that and you start to feel your own body again and it is sweaty and awkward and weird.  I wrote that in a way that made it feel EXACTLY how I have felt and that is not always achievable.

And I love the second one because partly Responsible Science is about the fact that Tony thinks he can fix everything if he just tries hard enough, but he can’t always be the hero, even if he is a good person who does his very best.  I think for Tony that is really, really difficult.  Meanwhile usually it’s the ugliest parts of herself that Natasha has to whip out to be a hero, and in this story she finally gets to use gentleness and compassion and it works.  It means a lot to her.  Little Bruce is like.  everything.  to Natasha

I’m still more proud of Responsible Science than anything else I’ve ever written.  This makes me sad sometimes but also happy because Bruce Banner.  But then I think about Age of Ultron and get sad again.

I just rewatched Avengers y’all and why isn’t there more Bruce Banner fic about ethics.  Why.

the force is my new hulk I guess

I’m kind of thinking about The Force Awakens and about how I want to write fic because I have Things To Say (but mostly about Luke Skywalker), but all the ideas I have feel really uninspired because they just take up directly at the end of the movie and say what happened next.  Anyway this was how I felt directly after The Avengers, so I went and looked at some old fic I started writing then.  I’m reading this unfinished fic that is like, the first thing I wrote after seeing TA.  It’s a fic about all of them getting schwarma and I come across this priceless gem:

“I just don’t think it would be a good idea to cut off a chunk of an alien you know nothing about, and go and start—testing it’s DNA and inventing serums and miracle cures,” Steve said.  Bruce thought that Steve didn’t mean to, but it didn’t matter--Steve still looked his way.

Bruce looked at his shawarma.  He had absolutely nothing to say about irresponsible science.

And I was like wow, I really have a one track mind when it comes to MCU.

Then I was like, who am I kidding.  The only fics I want to write about The Force Awakens are all about  the ethics of Force training anyway. 

God I need a new schtick.

I just want to rec for now and all time, lettered’s Responsible Science verse on Ao3.  It’s just fucking amazing, ok?  There’s some Natasha/Bruce in there but all of the Avengers are represented and treated as fully developed, fucked up people.  Which is really what I love in a fic.  

I don’t want my heroes pure.  I want them fucked up and tangled and full of real drives and wants and desires.  This is a long series but I have read and reread it and it has yet to disappoint. 

I wait with bated breath the day she drops another fic.  Please take a look.
