What would life be without Lyves beautifully expressive, emotively stirring music tugging at our scarred hearts and soothing our weary souls? It’s been four years since we first trembled under the evocative caress of her music. It’s almost unbelievable that time has flown by so quickly. And we had to spend much of 2018 without any new music from Lyves, aka Francesca Bergami. The British  artist did return last month with the first song in a series of monthly new releases, all to be accompanied by a compendium of short films. Still was our first taste of the project, entitled Eight Rooms. And what an astounding piece it is, a gorgeously ethereal, murky simmering beauty you can revisit via our feature, here. Lyves returns this week with the next chapter in the series, a dusky glistering, tenderly surging ballad bursting with poignant emotion. Rest Your Head is as extravagantly beautiful and richly affecting as Lyves’ music has ever been, with lush, intricate atmospherics that recall Daughter, but with a whole lot of enveloping warmth and swelling passion. The soulful haunting alt pop serenade was written by Lyves and co-produced with Will Night. Its accompanying video, directed by Francesca Castelbuono, can be viewed below. 

Speaking on the video, the director states: "After listening to 'Rest Your Head' I set out to capture the song’s sense of loss and melancholic longing for an absent something or loved one, mixed with the awareness that they might never return. In the film, reality, memory, and fantasy merge in portraying the grief of a mother coming to terms with the loss of her son, as she revisits their loving and conflictual relationship. This representation of loss can be interpreted as tangible or metaphorical. Regardless, I hope this intimate portrait of a mother and son’s relationship will move you." Though Rest Your Head near shatters our hearts with its sorrowful pining while igniting a sense of woeful emptiness, it also comforts us and fills us up with its gorgeously fanning strings and Lyves magnificently arching voice. It almost feels like we’re really resting our head, on a soft, familiar pillow, where we feel safe and sound, lost in our memories, ready to dream of a more idyllic past.
