Isak was perpetually in this cycle trying to figure out the people around him. He supposes it was natural for him to want to figure out people, only focusing on exploiting their weaknesses, and seeing what makes them tick. Everyone, potentially, held prospects in furthering his career and power. It was up to Isak to figure out how they fit into the bigger picture. It was how he got to where he was now. He had to be relatively good at not only reading people but figuring out how they could be used. It’s the rare occurrence that Isak interacts with someone with no ulterior motives other than a general curiosity that wasn’t tied to his dominion over the city. It’s how he finds himself across from the wolf. How could anyone willingly want to live as a human? Live beneath themselves when they held some sort of power that made them superior, stronger, more adaptable to this rugged city plagued with crime and carefully veiled danger? Every once in a while, Isak needs some nonwork-related entertainment. It’s why he is sending a drink the other’s way with only a simple smile. In the room full of humans, it’s very easy to spot and pinpoint other supernaturals. Unfortunately, for the other, he has caught Isak’s attention.
