If you’ve ever worked in retail, you know the vibe. That one person who overshares about… Intimate details. Whether it be their sex life, something traumatic randomly sprung upon you, or anything in-between. It’s a horror all its own.
As a retail employee in the UK, I just want y'all general public out there to know something about the 5p plastic bag levy that came into effect almost 3 years ago now.
We aren't trying to charge you 5p for plastic bags, we're trying to deter you from spending 5p on plastic bags. We literally don't want you to buy them. It is literally the law. The plastic bags are 5p because the point is that you're like "ah no I don't wanna spend money on a plastic bag that I'm just going to throw away when I get home, so I'll bring my own/start reusing bags/buy a fabric tote bag".
Do not shout at the employees. Do not rant at us. We haven't done this to you in particular, we are just trying to go about our business in peace. It's not our faults. We get it, you don't like having this restriction, but it's been 3 years now so like maybe get over it now?? Thank you for coming to my tedtalk
