Everybody loves to shop or go to the movies on Boxing Day or stat holidays....until it is them, or their family member, being forced to work it instead of having a family dinner together. When it was somebody else and their family it was OK though.

Technically you are allowed to refuse to work a stat holiday....if you don' t mind being fired for something else or being assigned the crappiest shifts as revenge for it.
