MH192 flight will leave for Bangalore at 3.30pm
KUALA LUMPUR, April 21:
Bangalore-bound Malaysia Airlines MH192 that turned back to KLIA early this morning will be retimed to depart KLIA at 3.30pm today and arrive Bangalore at 5pm the same day.
It had departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 10.09pm last night but had had turned back after one of the tyres on the right hand main landing gear burst during takeoff. It landed safely in KLIA at 1.56am today.
According to a media statement from the airlines, the captain was alerted by Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control that tyre debris were found on the runway and immediately contacted the airlines’ Operations Control Centre (OCC) at 10.25pm.
“As safety is of utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines, the aircraft was required to turn back to KLIA. The Airport Fire Rescue Services (AFRS) were deployed as soon as the pilot was instructed to turn back to KLIA by OCC.
“All 159 passengers and 7 crew members on board have disembarked from the aircraft. MH192 will be retimed to depart KLIA at 3.30pm on 21 April 2014 and arrive Bangalore at 5pm the same day.
Meanwhile, the statement said all passengers will be accommodated at nearby hotels.
In Sepang this morning, Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein praised the pilot for making a safe emergency landing, saying he had discharged his duty in a professional manner.
“The passengers, despite being tired, expressed their admiration for the pilot’s skilful handling of the aircraft in making the emergency landing safely without any harm to the passengers.
“They voiced this when I met them and they are most thankful to the pilot,” he said at the KLIA Flight Management Building here.
Present at the press conference was the pilot, Captain Nor Adam Azmi Abdul Razak, and several crew members.
He also instructed MAS to prepare a report on the incident for the ministry and the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
“Although MAS is under Khazanah Nasional, we want a comprehensive report by Wednesday.
“This is because there have been many incidents involving MAS, including the disappearance of Flight MH370. The report has to be handed to my ministry and the Cabinet,” he said.
