Brave and beautiful and weird
263. Tracy Chapman s/t *** so lyrically BRUTAL. Today, I have really picked some intense ones! Tracy is an OG social justice troubadour.
304. Jeff Buckley, Grace***** My first time listening to this album beginning to end. Although this album came out in 1994 it sounds like no particular era of music. I mean, just consider what else was happening in the mid-nineties. It was not this. I hear At the Drive In / PJ Harvey / Nina Simone / and, like, church. (Clearly this is where Antony & the Johnsons got all their inspo.) Brave and beautiful and weird— you can tell Jeff was not long for this world. He already did everything he needed to do outside the reality of time and space. My highlights: So Real & Eternal Life
305. Lucinda Williams, Cars Wheels on a Gravel Road **** Americana defined. A must have on any solo cross country road trip. Lucinda brings it!
324. David Bowie, Station to Station **** How did this actually excellent album get on this list? Wild is the Wind is such a lyrically beautiful song to cover- “With your kiss my life begins.” I feel so validated when I listen to David Bowie albums. #ReturnOfTheThinWhiteDuke
357. The Rolling Stones, Between the Buttons *** eclectic instrument selection- marimba, kazoo, organ, vibraphone, horns- a cool identity shifting album for them along with “Their Satanic Majesties Request” before they really find themselves in “Beggars Banquet.”
