Hayley, Reuben and I stayed up really late one night, at The Midnight Belle house in Nashville... smoking the hookah, swapping stories and sharing songs. In a quiet moment, I started to talk very honestly about what I had been going through, in the months prior. He kept puffing on smoke and just listened to me go on for about 20 minutes. I talked about my heart breaking & mending while having to live and work in plain sight of everyone... finding a way of being unashamed of anything anymore, living on the road, sharing my life and love with strangers and my search for my heart and home. I was hoping he would have something poignant to say, that would shed some light on where I was...But just we sat in quiet contemplation, and puffed on smoke. In the quiet moments following, I thought maybe he hadn't really been listening to me... so I just let it hang in air, and passed the pipe. Slowly, Reuben drew in a long puff, then he carefully blew a flawless smoke ring, right in my direction... as it opened up, there he was, in the backfield. He came into focus and I saw him peering back at me through it... then he said: "I've got a new song. I haven't played it for anyone; but I want you to hear it. I think you might dig it."
