Peter!! It’s so lovely to have the whole pack of Marauders at the ready! What can our boys get up to?
First off, flashbacks! I’m very curious to see your take on the dynamic between Peter and Remus! We should chat about this more. Maybe it’s got some small flashbacks to it, if you like those - the aftermath of that Snape incident, regular school days antics with a side of feels, moments that distinguish their relationship from those they have with the rest of the guys.
At the moment, it’s Remus who’s attracting a certain amount of suspicion from both the other Marauders and the Order, in general. Maybe for different reasons, and with different worries in mind, but still. What’s Peter, the actual traitor, think about that? What might he do with it? These doubts and concerns serve his interests, maybe, but... they are friends, aren’t they? How much does that matter, when this war’s body count is on the rise?
Ironically, Remus not only doesn’t suspect Peter of anything, but is also genuinely worried about him. While he was away with the packs for those years, Remus was certain he would return to find the Marauders as tight knit as ever. That... isn’t quite the case, and it hurts. Peter seems so distant, so preoccupied, lately. These are Remus’ boys, here, his best mates. He wants to see things set right between them, as much as James - he’s just a bit shyer about it. I’m sure he’ll seek Peter out soon to try and sort out what’s been happening in his long, long absence, and reconnect.
Of all the Marauders, Peter and Remus have the most muggleness to them. Remus isn’t ashamed of it - he has so many worse things to be ashamed of - and honestly probably found it to be a bit of a relief. Finally, somebody who understands... everything beyond the magical world, which can feel claustrophobically small, for Remus. Much nicer to step out into muggle England and enjoy himself in a place where the worst parts of him officially don’t exist. How does Peter feel about trips out into muggleness? Is this something they might have made a habit of, the halfblood boys? Remus could certainly use a bit of a break, now and then.
Speaking of trust. This is pretty nasty, but if Peter ever needs to, his knowledge of Remus makes it easy for him to salt certain wounds and stoke mistrust between the other Marauders, should that suit him. Anyone who paid any attention can tell that the boys aren’t properly past the damage done by that night Snape found his way to the Shrieking Shack. Be nice if they were, but... how do you move on from that, really? Especially when Remus can barely broach the subject, out of fear of losing his precious few friends?
