☽ Chaos Theory - Reverse Selfship Edition! ☾
100% a self indulgent thing, b/c i really love the idea of reverse self shipping and just imagining our f/os being the ones to fall for a fictional version of us.
☾ Ford is in Backupsmore when his crush begins. The guy's been throwing himself head-first into schoolwork and after a long, particularly rough week of living off of nothing but coffee while studying for a test he decides that a bit of a break is in order and what better way to relax than with some DD&MD? That's when he learns about the character known as Simon Lenore.
☾ Fictional!Simon is a character introduced in a recent edition of DD&MD. Being a disgraced demon prince, Simon Lenore appears as a mysterious being of the shadows, just as likely to help the player(s) as he is to hinder them. While mostly shown as a villain type, ((falling into the whole queer-coded villain stereotype a bit, b/c this is the 70s after all)) DD&MD lore suggests that Simon is part angel as well as demon, putting him in a place of feeling like he belongs nowhere. Needless to say, Ford can relate to feeling different from others.
☾ Also the artists of DD&MD definitely went all out with making Simon easy to look at, with illustrations portraying his soft, effeminate features accented with his long, dark hair and gothic fashion sense which often included things like thigh high boots, tight leather pants, low cut blouses and the like.
☾ Ford: I hope this doesn't awaken anything in me.
☾ Ford finds himself searching for any sort of content with Simon Lenore he can find. Art, books, graphic novels, you name it. All the while insisting he definitely was not gay for femboy Dracula from DD&MD.
☾ Also Ford would definitely be the type to argue with people who interpret Simon 'wrong'. Because dammit, Simon is an anti-villain who, despite some wrong doings, ultimately wanted what was best for his fellow demons and wasn't some baby-eating, puppy-kicking monster some people portrayed him as!
☾ While he was always interesting in pursuing the paranormal as a career, he'd be lying if he said a small part of him wasn't hoping to find a dark, mysterious demon boyfriend along the way.
☾ Beyond just being a pretty face that helps him come to terms with his sexuality, Simon also becomes someone he can think about when things are hard. When it seems like he's alone and has nobody to turn to, he likes to imagine that Simon would be there to tell him that he was stronger than he think is. That even if the world turned it's back on him, that the two of them could be weirdoes together against the world.
☾ He ends up getting a ring. An old looking silver thing, something that wouldn't draw too much attention but something he could look at and feel like Simon Lenore was with him in a way.
