The University of Pittsburgh to Revitalize the Mon Valley Region
Charles C. Fawcett IV, president of TriState Capital, has established himself in the Pittsburgh financial community over the past three decades. An alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh graduate program, Charles C. Fawcett IV is part of the university’s legacy of giving back to the community. Established in 1787, the University of Pittsburgh is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the nation, and it has been integral to the development of the Steel City. Unfortunately, communities built around the steel industry throughout Mon Valley have struggled to recover from the recent economic decline. To address the region’s flagging recovery efforts, the University of Pittsburgh launched an initiative in early August 2014 to revitalize the area. Supported jointly by the university and the U.S. Department of Commerce through a $600,000 grant, the Advancing Entrepreneurship in the Mon Valley Region initiative is aimed at sparking long-term economic recovery. Through various consulting services such as community workshops, financial planning, infrastructure development, and more, university staff will lend their expertise to local startups, enabling small-business owners to develop profitable enterprises.
