The prom had been a beautiful haze for one Maya Tendou. In an act of defiance of convention worthy of the top two members of the class, she had taken Claudine as her date.
The two of them had been academic and social rivals for years, and in Maya’s mind, Claudine was the only person who could match her blow for metaphorical blow. So naturally, she had been the only one worthy of accompanying her to the dance.
As the one doing the inviting, she had dressed in a tuxedo and presented Claudine with her corsage. And Claudine had been intoxicatingly stunning; a red evening gown that positively radiated brilliance.
Alas, all good things had to come to an end; so here they were, stood upon the front step of Claudine’s house.
“I had a wonderful time this evening. Thank you.”
“The pleasure was all mine,” said Maya, raising Claudine’s hand up and pressing her lips feather-light to the knuckles.
There was a pause. Maya was confident that she’d managed to reduce her rival/girlfriend to a blushing mess. Instead when she looked into Claudine’s face, she saw annoyance.
“You infuriating woman,” said Claudine. Then Maya felt a hand grip her tie and pull her into a full blown kiss with Claudine. She’d thought the night couldn’t get better, yet she’d been proven wrong. She couldn’t even help the tiny whimpering moan that came out as Claudine deepened the kiss.
This was one loss to her she would happily take.
