i love renegade by styx for my purple mage hawke. it's energetic and kind of wild, and the lyric "hangman is coming down from the gallows" is just. so good. on the nose in a fun way!

it's mostly a vibes song but it does fit her dynamic with meredith in act 3 a little bit. she wants to throw hawke in the gallows soooo bad

8. A series you haven't played but are interested in trying

hmm there are a lot of games in my backlog but not many series… do rogue trader and expedition 33 count? i own them both i just haven't gotten around to playing them yet. oh i've been interested in warframe for a while but mmo's (i think it's an mmo?) are always a little intimidating to jump into, and i've always wanted to go back and play the original tomb raider games!

that's three more answers than the question asked for but i am incapable of not yapping lmao

11. Do you prefer 'blank slate' main characters you make yourself or otherwise project onto, or characters with a set personality and backstory?

i think i'm in the minority on this one (on tumblr at least) but i definitely prefer more defined main characters over blank slates, even in games with customizable protagonists. personally i just find it far more fun to like, work within the constraints the game gives me when making a character than being given total free rein; the former usually means my character feels much more like a part of the world than the latter

i do enjoy some blank slate protagonists (pwotr and ffxiv for example are two of my favourite games, and my pwotr character is one of my favourite ocs), but i'll take hawke, shepard and durge over the inquisitor or tav any day

13. Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind

answers from ffxiv! i just finished replaying a realm reborn's main story and answers plays during the end credits. genuinely one of my favourite video game soundtracks, nobuo uematsu and masayoshi soken are fantastic composers

2. do you have a collection of anything?

hm not really? i tend to hold onto things for no reason like ticket stubs, fortune cookie fortunes, or if i buy something that comes in unique packaging like a pretty bag or a jar i'll keep those, but i don't collect any One Thing. i went through phases of collecting certain things as a kid though, like stickers, cool rocks from the beach, crystals from flea markets and feathers i found on the ground, and i still have some of those! my favourite is still the hawk feather, it's pinned to our corkboard in the breakfast nook

13. what are your hobbies?

video games is the big one lol, but also reading, baking, crochet and nature walks! i guess gifmaking is a hobby? writing too, but i've barely written more than two paragraphs at time in years 😭 feels weird to call cooking a hobby but i do really enjoy it, and i'm having a lot of fun with this paint by numbers i'm doing and i'm planning to do more of them!

23. what's the coolest place you've visited?

i haven't had the chance to travel out of the country much yet unfortunately, i mean i've been to some beautiful places in canada but it all feels so local to me, yknow? so i'm going to say it was the falconry centre i went to on vancouver island; they asked my dad to come take photos for them and i got a free hands-on experience out of it! i went on a walk through the woods with a hawk, got to hold a couple owls and learned how to send them flying and catch them on my arm again, it was very cool

19. Has your Dark Urge become particularly close to anyone romantically and/or platonically in their journey? If so, who, and what is the relationship like? If no, why not?

romantically she becomes close with Astarion and it's... complicated. their relationship starts out as mutually using each other—Tasi is in a weird place the night of the tiefling party and she agrees to sleep with Astarion on a whim because she wants to forget about her guilt and feel normal for once, but she's not in the right headspace for it so it ends up being a pretty uncomfortable night together where neither of them are really there mentally. somehow they develop actual feelings for each other despite that and even though neither of them know what they're doing, they tentatively agree to try out a real relationship. Tasi is very much like "i'm getting better and i'm dragging you all with me" and supports Astarion without letting him fall back into his worst impulses; and for his part, genuinely caring about someone else forces Astarion to actually, like, grow as a person lmao. they're both dealing with their own trauma and it's rocky at times, but they are genuinely good for each other

platonically, she grows close with each of the companions in different ways but her absolute closest friends are Wyll and Shadowheart, and she admires Jaheira a lot. Tasi and Shadowheart bond pretty quickly; their memory loss and the cult trauma makes them kindred spirits, and they're both literally on journeys of self-discovery. Tasi is supportive but also willing to challenge Shadowheart's relationship with Shar and push her to make her own decisions, and after Tasi's revelations about Bhaal, Shadowheart returns the favour. i think they have the kind of sisterly relationship that Tasi could have had with Orin, in another life. Wyll and Jaheira are her biggest inspirations; she admires Wyll's passion and conviction, and Jaheira's belief in her is humbling. in her darkest moments, the fact that the two of them see the good in her is the only thing that makes her believe it's really there

20. Is your Dark Urge open about their Urge or do they try to hide it? Why?

she's very inconsistent about this tbh lmao. or maybe it's more accurate to say that she becomes more calculating about it over time? she definitely blabs to all the companions about her amnesia and violent thoughts pretty much immediately, because she's freaked out and confused and thinks/hopes it might be a tadpole thing, but she's more cautious about it after she kills Alfira and only confides in a few other people, to varying degrees of success (Ethel's "thinking is just a step away from doing" doesn't help at all, but Minthara is oddly reassuring). basically, once she gets a better handle on herself it becomes a question of "will telling this person be advantageous or not?" like warning Isobel or telling Devella. she's also not above using it to intimidate people if she thinks it'll help, but generally she prefers to keep it under wraps

21. What are 2-3 songs that your Dark Urge would relate to?

yayyy music question! i won't go into each one individually because i've yapped so much already BUT these are all songs that to me have themes of like. struggling with anger, trauma or self-loathing and the self-sabotaging desire to ruin the good things in your life, and Tasi would absolutely relate to that

1. What would you consider Rook's theme song to be?

i couldn't decide between two wildly different songs so i'm going with both <3

the bullpen by dessa is loud and bold, it speaks her to overconfidence, her eagerness to prove herself and how she hates to be underestimated

and then there's vienna by billy joel. underneath the devil-may-care attitude cara struggles with who she is and what she wants, and fears she's running out of time to figure that out. "slow down, you're doing fine, you can't be everything you want to be before your time" is something she definitely needs to internalize

9. What song could an antagonist use to describe their conflicts with Rook?

oohh this one was hard.. i think running up that hill is a good one for solas and rook. before i learned it was about a man and a woman swapping places i thought it was about a woman swapping places with god and i thought that was really cool lol

11. Which song best describes them during their time prior to being Rook?

the family jewels by marina and the diamonds is a good one for her life with the crows. she feels frustrated and disrespected and she can't stop herself from acting out. and of course her rebellious streak eventually leads to her getting kicked out of antiva lol
