It's wild to watch the phrase "tumblr sexyman" morph into "man that tumblr thinks is sexy," because when I first saw the phrase come into use, I always saw it used in reference to the phenomenon of "when presented with a wide array of fictional characters, tumblr will always pick the skinny white man to obsess over, and if the fan-favorite character has no canonical human appearance, the fandom will inevitably create a popular fanon of the character as as a skinny white man."
When I hear "tumblr sexyman," I think of Cecil Night Vale being constantly depicted as a skinny white man instead of literally anything else. I think of the background character white men who get elevated over protagonists that are women, people of color, or otherwise not the white man power fantasy.
"Tumblr sexyman" is, like. An insult. I DON'T want any of my blorbos to win a "tumblr sexyman" poll. "Tumblr sexyman" is the exact opposite of what I want my own OCs to be. If any of my characters ever get called "tumblr sexyman," I will have to immediately re-evaluate myself and the art I'm making.
I realised I've never posted the first ever Haurchefant I drew, so here, you can have him as a treat! It was back in January when I first met him and fell in love ❤️
I've drawn him A LOT since then, but haven't shared most of the drawings (yet), I need to take the time to organise and clean it all 😌
"get him pregnant" well thats not my thing but to each their own
"get her pregnant" *takes up my sword and shield* i wont let you do that to her. ......................
i wish i could convince my dad that it's socially acceptable to go to a fast food place just for a drink

on one hand that "pseudohumanities" post infuriates me bc there is legitimately good analysis being produced #OnHere and I've seen it dismissed as pseudohumanities.
on the other hand I've seen viciously incorrect and ahistorical analysis made by folks getting 10s of thousands of notes because they said it with a tone of authority, so it's not like the pseudohumanities critique is unfounded lmao

yeah, exactly! and I wanna expand on this just a little. the "doing humanities in an informal para-academic setting" is something that one gets used to when they're in academia. There are posts on here that I read in the manner in which I treat the conversations had with phd candidates over coffee (weed or w/e vice of choice, i've certainly posted about my subjects of study while high), in that these conversations can be both highly informative and highly generative. I've had informal convos both irl and online turn into papers. While we aren't going to treat these conversations as the same level of authority as we might a peer reviewed paper or a book, we recognize that they can be genuinely productive scholarship. (Which is part of the fun of following other academics on here. Besides that so many of them are delightful, intelligent, and pleasant to be around; but im digressing)
But for someone without the experience, that difference between expertise and someone faking expertise is often not legible. And so we have some folks blithely spouting absolute nonsense that gets treated with the same or greater authority than folks who've spent 8 years in intensive study. And while I'm not yet 8 years along in my studies, I'm enough of an expert in some subjects to be occasionally pulling my hair out in the same way an astronomer will at youtube videos about black holes or in the same way epidemiologists have been driven bald since the start of 2020.
All of which is to say: Not all posts are good ones. And I know it's my job to teach people to read with their thinking caps on. But man I wish people knew how to read with their thinking caps on
Fuuuuck dude I got drunk last night and tried to take down the villain on my own and now he’s texting me some ‘I’m the only one allowed to defeat you’ shit bro what do I do
Man he just yelled ‘I want him alive’ to his goons, it’s so over.
Black ppl deserve to feel safe and welcomed on the internet, on fandoms on whatever community or hobbies they want without having to deal with antiblack racist attacks, microaggressions or enablers of antiblackness . And if u genuinely consider urself to be left leaning or an ally or woke you should do and try to unlearn the colorism, texturism , eurocentrism and antiblackness
miss you (the money i spent)
[scrolling social media] Who the fuck is Jimothy?
