I was thinking about some of the comments on quora on how excessively cutesy and even kawai-ish Rey's portrayal was in TFA and then combined that with TLJ they don't know what to make about her characteristics..
Then i mentally listed some things about Rey and how she interacts with people in movies..
Rey smiles and gets super excited when she is happy or meets someone she idealizes. No lingual equivalent of saying how she feels at all.
Has no tendency to say Thank You or Sorry, like she didnt say thank you to Finn handing her tools in falcon or even bothered to say sorry to Lanai Nuns for upending cart full of expensive horns in AchTo.
Unironically says she has no idea why Lanais don't like her. Hence no idea to say Sorry.
Touch averse especially when the person she is touching is awake. Only hugged Finn when he came back for her when he said he wouldn't and this shows her initiating physical contact and craving closeness with Ben is a big personal breakthrough.
Does frequently enroach Ben's personal space without need and permission.
Sense of humor is very bad if her face is any indication when Lanais asked her to twirl her saber for fun in the party she crashed(literally).
I don't know why but the way Rey made that Face in the party, it seems to me she really doesn't have any idea how lucky she is Lanais didn't give her a tongue lashing for ruining more property and was generally in a good mood to overlook her assholish behavior (all that future good lovin certainly banished the crankiness, huh?) . She ia annoyed and she has no social que filter in her head which would tell her to not to make that face and prioritize her feelings over the wronged Lanais.
All of this clearly indicates that Rey's basic social behavior set is still frozen more or less on a developmental scale of a Five year old little girl. The tendency to use very basic facial expression to express excitement, having no idea or self accountability on what is acceptable socially because there was no parent for so long to do that for her, not touching "stranger" like little children tend to do(along with jakku surely have cemented that) and her tendency to even physically run away from any feeling which makes her unhappy like little kid certainly indicates..
Rey being socially inept is very canon and the fanon idea of Ben being anti social mess is far more applicable to Rey than it could be to Ben( i mean post anger issues, past skewed moral compass, he could be quite ok at socializing like Matt the Radar Technician! Lol)
The way Rey self imposed isolation on herself whether she genuinely doesn't like socializing even with some good people on Jakku or her hang up about her family (i think a combo of both) puts her in more or less the same scale Ben whose emotional development due to several mental violation and isolation by Snoke is very stunted.
The difference is thanks to her lowly position of subservience to Plutt, she has developed a mental barrier however thin to tamp down her anger issues while Snoke has let Ben's thrive by putting him as special category personal apprentice so he could exploit his mental instability.
I am sad now for these two.😕
