her smile was radiant as nymeria fluttered about the ballroom and courtyard, surely making it difficult for her guard to keep up with her, but her happiness was far too immense for her to remain still for long. already she’d graced the dance floor numerous times and spoken with as many people as she could. however, her sweet tooth eventually pulled her toward the large table of desserts. she was surveying the array of options ( and wondering how many she could take without looking gluttonous ) when she noticed someone standing beside her. ❝ have you tried any of the desserts yet? ❞ her attention now fully given to the other. ❝ i’d be happy to suggest a few if you find you cannot decide. ❞
lynesse fully intends to spend as much of the festivities by her sister’s side as possible, supporting as she enters a new phase of life and fending off overly enthusiastic well wishers as necessary. at the moment, however, denyse is sitting quietly with her new husband, and the contingent of guards surrounding them is enough to reassure her into stepping away for a short while. the courtyard’s edge offers some peace from the evening’s hubbub, but it is not long before she registers another person near her. “ i find it amusing that, despite the festivities taking place outside, one still needs to disengage for a breath of fresh air, ” she comments idly, gaze wandering over the party.
the night was clear and beautiful , and visera found her gaze glued to the swath of sky that was visible through the roof of the open - air courtyard that housed the main wedding celebrations . despite its exposure to the night air , a night spent dancing could make any space feel stuffy , and she had padded her way out onto a balcony for fresh air , gaze automatically aimed towards where she knew her family’s dragons resided . pointing to the horizon , she turns to the person she shares her respite with . “ look , there — ” in the distance , a dragon is returning from what she assumes was a nightly hunt . she drops her arm and leans both elbows on the balcony’s railing , a smile painted on her valyrian features . “ i believe they’ll be more upset than any when we depart from here , ” a thoughtful pause , “ perhaps not those who enjoy dornish red slightly too much , but . ”
you didn’t forget about us, did you? in your eagerness to celebrate a new union, thoughts of our little messages had gone all but forgotten by so many. but we’re not so easily forgotten, not so easily dismissed or halted.
let us leave a reminder in a way you might take to heart.
a message in flame.
as our nobles are winding down on a night of dornish fun, as they prepare to bid the new couple goodnight, screams sound from the depths of the extravagantly decorated ballroom. fire has caught to the many tapestries hung, quickly spreading to every surface possible. the screams intensify, bodies scrambling out as smoke and flame fill every space of the room.
guards pour from every corner of the palace, buckets of water begin passing down lines of any willing to help. for a few moments there are no nobles, no commonfolk, no dornish, no southerners, just people seeking to stop great tragedy from striking.
of course, not all stay to help, and trust the martells see who is so unwilling to save their home after their hospitality has been offered.
but those who came together succeed, the flames smothered in water and weary bodies slowly filter off to bed.
come sun rise they are given a new edict from the ruling princess martell, the gates of the palace are closed, none in, none out. our characters once again find themselves trapped in the aftermath of tragedy, another royal’s iron fist eager to seek out those who sought to harm their own.
OOC INFO
as you can see, we end all weddings with a bang!
this plot drop is not optional, all threads from here on must reflect these events. all characters are now unable to leave sunspear’s palace until further notice.
you do not have to drop your event threads though it is highly encouraged to do so. all players may have one free starter, but again we are telling, not asking, everyone to make the effort to also reply to opens and not solely focus on closed threads. unlike the event, we will be handing out warnings to those players who have not responded to any opens after some time has passed.
if you are interested in having characters be involved in this plot drop, please dm the main and remember that some things are limited so asking is a lot kinder than telling.
options for involvement include those who fled rather than helping put out the flames, those injured in the mass escape from the ballroom, deaths (npc or otherwise), victims of attempted kidnappings, and those who may have been a shining star amongst the helpful ( i.e. helping others out of the fire, tending to wounded, one of the first to jump in to help put out the flames ) this does not mean everyone who helped, just those that were the most helpful/notable.
davos enjoyed festivities as much as any other dornishman , but it also wasn’t rare for the ruling lord to slip off. he wasn’t as young as he once was , the fresh cool air of the dornish night helped him keep going so he didn’t tire and return to his rooms too early. he’d never hear the end of it if he did that. hearing a rustle in the bushes doesn’t phase him , but when another out in the courtyard seeks to investigate he winces a bit. “ i would advise against that. ” unless they were attempting to join , but he doubted as much.
a part of her longed to join the others on the dance floor, but she lacked any partner and any courage to ask someone around her if they would be interested in joining her for a dance. instead she lingered on the sidelines, telling herself she was content merely to watch as others twirled about to the various melodies that filled the hall. out of the corner of her eye, she noticed someone standing nearby. dark eyes glanced over, and she smiled softly. ❝ the music is lovely, wouldn’t you say? the martells have employed such fine musicians. ❞
for weeks guests have witnessed sunspear in a tizzy, wedding planning and protection of its inhabitants at an all time peak. whispers of the wedding being cancelled scattered throughout the shadows. but the martells remain unbent, they do not bow in the face of danger, and the wedding takes place on the 18th day of spring.
as expected of the martells, every inch of the palace has been decorated over the top. floral splashes adorn every possible surface, bright and bold colors to signify their happiness of welcoming their future ruling princess.
the ceremony is held without a hitch, the promises made to one another and to their kingdom. denyse redwyne becomes a princess of dorne with cheers and applause. the joy of the room overtakes even those who might not have been the most excited, smiles seen on almost every face in attendance.
and then comes time for the real celebration, the party held in the large courtyard and open air ballroom with plenty of feast, drink, and performers from all throughout dorne to keep everyone dancing until the sun rises.
this event will run from tonight, feb 18th @ 6pm to monday, march 6th at noon. ( times are in cst )
