Welcome to Castles' Brain For the Last 2 Months: A List of Montague Finch's Autism
okay so this was written in accordance to @plagueroundcountdown's Day Four prompt Theory, and then i got three points in, realized there's no chance AJ was going to canonize this ever. anyway. this boy is autistic, a comprehensive list:
Black and white thinking (“do you see a monster or do you see a little boy?”, “you need to just kill me”, he is One Or The Other and if he is The Bad Option there is no redemption in his mind)
Struggle to empathize (cannot understand why his friends may struggle with the concept of Killing Their Friend, Actually)
Comfort Item (his magnifying glass glass that reveals the truth! if he has it the world is safer!)
Safe foods (king size kit kat 👍)
Textural Issues (specific clothing to wear, recognizes the feel of fabric immediately, and vague patreon spoiler: good with the beans originally and then when the quality has changed he immediately stops eating while the rest keep chowing down)
Flat vocal affect (doesn’t really change tone unless being What He Wants Others To See! [masking. masking.])
Speaks quietly / prefers quiet in general to not be overwhelmed (the car ride with Oleksandr, monty’s general disposition)
ALSO STRAIGHT UP. blank facial expressions. Lack of emoting. little vocal affect and also few expressions
Lack of motor skills typical for boys his age (doesn’t know how to dress/undress himself)
Literality (“what weapons do you have, monty?” “hand axe, can throw”: reading out the whole title and doing exactly what is asked; when roland tells him to use him as a battering ram, monty does exactly that without thought; same with roland’s joke of shoving sarge in the bag)
Inability to understand social cues (continuously stressing He Didn’t Do It even when Sarge says she believes him because he can’t tell whether she’s lying or not; can’t tell when the “joke” of him killing his family starts coming off wrong, shuts down Oleksandr’s attempts of conversation quite bluntly)
as with above. I don’t know how to title this but his use of I’m Sorry and Please and Thank You with otherwise blunt sentences is very autistic. to me. the autistic author of this post
thirdly with that. interrupting with either voice or gestures. does not know when “his turn” is in the conversation so he will get his shit out there.
Very good at suppressing his emotions to keep the wolf away but also to stop meltdowns who said that
Structure (his grandmother helps him with clothes so his friends will, reliance on the schedule, listening to the adults even when maybe he shouldn’t, preferring the knowledge of being weaker but Knowing What Will Happen versus impulsivity but Giving Into Unknown)
Autism Stare. 👁️_👁️. kid who has absolutely been told “if you remember what color that guy's eyes are i'll give you a sticker.” yeah. He makes eye contact less when he’s more comfortable, like with talking with kevin and i’m real normal about this folks
thank you for listening. this kid is autistic. good day <3
