You ever come up with a plan for a D&D session that's just SO GOOD?
My player's cleric had a Journey Through the Mind that explored his inner fears when a vampire was eating his Inner Child a few weeks ago. And ever since, he's been seeing shadows appear in his magic a little bit.
And more recently, he had to sacrifice his connection to his goddess to save his friend. And we've established that because of the way Divinity works in this world, his goddess can't reconnect. He has to pray and find her himself, a test of faith.
So my plan is that every time he prays, he finds himself in a labyrinth in his mind. And as he explores it, after a while he'll find a bright light at the end of the tunnel and hear a rumbling and a giant Shadow monster will chase him.
And the key is that if he runs into the light, he'll wake up. Nothing changed. If he fights the shadow monster, he'll wake up hurt. Nothing changed.
And if he embraces the shadow, he'll find himself hugging himself as a child, crying, who turns into his goddess. Only THEN will he wake up with his faith restored.
