Who is 'mirroring' who?? ❤ This is both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated movement. I haven't played with 'Panther Walk' in months. 😀 'Panther Walk is the slow, effortful, exaggerated walk and is a near-perfect exercise for mobility and stability/motor control–the keys needed for self-carriage. Imagine yourself balancing by standing on one leg, and then reaching forward and having to catch yourself from falling. This is a “self-balancing” exercise because we do not tell the horse how to move– we give him a goal (like reaching for a target with his front leg) and the horse has to organize himself to keep going without falling...' ~Intrinzen😁 I taught this initially by creating Chaining and/or a Behavior Chain: A series of behaviors (alternating leg lifts reaching for a stationary target) linked together in a continuous sequence by cues (me alternating my leg lifts), and maintained by a reinforcer (food treat) at the end of the chain. Each cue (leg lift) serves as the marker and the reinforcer for the previous behavior, and the cue (changing my leg) for the next behavior. I don't leave the horse in a stationary position for long, as I find it easier to teach the horse the behavior while they are moving forward. 😊 Even with the reaching forward movement with front legs, he maintains a nice 4 beat walk rhythm! ~ Fabulous Fun Friday ~ Rhett and I are excited it's Friday Freedom and Fun! Excitement leads to perfect "E" word feelings as I watch Rhett in  this short play video. https://youtu.be/qLkAQwKSyzs Exuberant, Euphoric, Enthusiastic, Energetic, Excited I love these adjectives for the feeling and 'state' Rhett is in as he  moves through space.  It comes from a place of autonomy and intrinsic  motivation for movement and through this 'state', he is finding his  own balance, mobility and stability.  The neuroscience piece that  accompanies the way the brain processes this 'want' to move and the  emotional systems piece of behavioral analysis or the 'need' to move  , are key to my work and my teaching path. I love that Rhett 'owns' those states of movements, even if only for  seconds and minutes at a time.   Simultaneously 'owning' the three  states of emotional, mental and physical movements, is the 'optimal  spot' that creates more 'want and need' in Rhett to move in this form  and fashion.  Add the 'chemical cocktail' released when moving in  these three states of emotional, mental and physical movement' and  the 'want and need' to move more in this 'optimal spot' is created. FUNctional movement is movement science and neuro science.  It  fascinates me and my horses seem to enjoy it.  Strength, motivation,  power, coordination, balance and agility continue to develop.  The  connection and partnership continue to flourish.
