bloodandroses said: Ugh you always look so cute! <3 heh, only because I very rarely stand next to other people in photos. Then I usually look more like a grumpy-yet-slightly-imposing rhinophant (albeit fancily decked out). ^^
Loxorhino/ Rhinophant
Habitat:
Asia, North Eastern India
Jungle- Vegetation in a place with a lot of space
Niche:
Large territory sized region
Micro-Habitat is based on it’s vegetation, water resource for fresh water, and high temperature the mammal has adpated to for many years.
Trophic Level:
Identified as a consumer of vegetation life
The rhinophants are mostly killed by humans for their horns
Predators and Prey:
The rhinophant does not kill any animal, but on occasion a group of wild cats attempt to attack the mammal to eat. The cats usually never succeed due to the mammal’s aggressiveness and defensive skills that are helped by his/her horns and tusks.
Symbosis:
Only eating vegetation means that the rhinophant practices commensalism
Basic Body Form:
The rhinophant is about the same weight as a the average Indian elephant.
Its is a bit shorter but it’s rhino-like horns make it the same weight as the average Indian elephant
This mammal looks almost identical to the elephant, except it is a bit huskier with the lumpy back of a rhinoceros and has horns on the top of it’s trunk.
It’s body parts conform with its diet; when the creature reaches out for a plant on a tree it is able to with it’s trunk.
They are born with very sharp horns that are used as a defensive mechanism against attackers
Adaptation:
The trunk of the Rhinophant helps reach out for foods on trees that are not easily
accessible in any other way
The rhinophant flaps it’s ears to create a breeze on hot days.
Reproduction:
Females and males flirt
Males start the interaction and sometimes mating occurs and sometimes it doesn’t.
Mating occurs by the animals mounting
The pregnancy is as long as an elephants; 22 months
Only one calf is born per pregnancy
The mother always tends to her calf and the calf relies greatly on his/her mother
The mammal is always in a family group so the calf is also protected by the herd his/her mother is with
The calf always has a lot attention in the beginning from the herd
