slightly edited from old discord convos with @kougracrusader, some backstory of Gyr and Tolamis.

Gyr (full name Gyr Rholande) and Tolamis are childhood friends. Tolamis was a knight in his childhood up until an event in his early twenties, and throughout the years, Gyr would always come by to hang out, because... well, not a lot of stuff happened by the castle, and Tolamis got bored, so he loved to see Gyr and play with him.

Gyr has always loved fairytale stories with knights and princes. He wants a prince of his own, and this was very evident in the past. He would frequently ask Tolamis if he knew of any, and he would always laugh and say "the prince I guard is already married, dude." But Gyr didn't give up! (well, he gave up on the married one, of course).

One day, he finally met a prince, a peophin named Ravi. Gyr's the fool that rushed in and fell in love, but the tragedy of it all - Ravi was a bitch and not a good guy, at all. He's the kind of prince who was trying to work his way up to power and didn't want to get his own hands dirty. Enter Gyr, who Ravi called his "dream come true" - enough to make Gyr fall head over heels, even though he means "someone who would do anything for me". He played the part of lover to get Gyr to do all the shady work for him. What "shady work" entailed - planting evidence, causing infighting. No murder, (at least, Gyr wouldn't know if his actions led to someone's demise) but still very punishable events once they find out whose behind it.

Ravi insisted they keep their love a secret... except Gyr tells Tolamis ofc bc he wants to talk about his wonderful Fairytale Romance. Everything he says to Tolamis sounded awful, and Tolamis wanted so desperately to get him out of there, but he didn't know how to help him. Not while he was blinded by his rose-tinted goggles.

Finally, one day, Tolamis just couldn't stand it and decided to step in for Gyr, because Gyr honestly didn't grasp that he was being used - it's Ravi, he could never! (except he could and he has). Tolamis just barges in to the castle, full armor, to take Gyr back with him. He wasn't out to get justice for the royal scandal Ravi is involved with, he simply wanted his friend back.

Prince Ravi didn't see the situation that way, so they fight. Turns out Ravi's pretty damn good with a sword, not to mention Tolamis hadn't had to fight in years, and Tolamis loses the bottom half of his right arm and faints. Gyr started having doubts when Tolamis first barged in, but this was the push that made Gyr realize that something was very, very wrong with this picture. He rushes in to help his friend, yelling at Ravi over what he had done. Ravi, finding Gyr much more trouble than he was worth, drew his sword at him instead, impaling him.

As the light fades from Gyr's vision, he wearily asked, "Can... can you at least tell me that you loved me?"

Ravi smiles at him, but never answered as he pulled the sword from Gyr's soon lifeless body.

When Tolamis wakes up, he's back at his own castle and has no idea what happened to Gyr. It's over a year before they meet again, and he's just confused and scared... and now has a prosthetic arm. He's really lonely and depressed in the year where Gyr is gone because he has no clue what happened to him, he won't pick up his phone, etc. As Tolamis has been so wrought with worry, he is unable to carry out his duties and is retired as a knight, taking up gardening instead.

Dazzler is the one to find Gyr. Ravi apparently didn't want to leave much of a trace of Gyr after his death, as his face was mostly in tact but not much else. It just doesn't sit right with him, so Dazzler gets to work at playing Fyora modifying a robot prototype from one of his theme parks to fit this poor soul, essentially reviving him.

Gyr doesn't remember anything for a while. He doesn't know the events leading to his death, and hasn't really completely grasped that he had died. He knows his name, and that he was alive, and not much else.

Half a year into working with Dazzler at his theme park as a secretary, he remembers the feeling of wanting to find true love, to find his storybook prince, but he doesn't remember finding one. He remembers he told this to someone, someone he must have been close to, but can't put a name or face on this person. A month later he sees his friend's face but not his name. A month later, he has a name - "Tolamis." A week later, he recalls that Tolamis is who he recounted this to, and that he was his childhood friend.

A year since Gyr had been put into his robot body, he finally is able to recall most things. He knows where he was born, he still doesn't know about Ravi or his own death. But he knows Tolamis, and finally, he knows where he last saw him, and takes leave to go visit.

He doesn’t understand why Tolamis is crying so hard when he sees him, as he doesn’t remember what happened the last time they saw each other. It feels like any other day for Gyr, essentially. On the other side of the coin, Tolamis was convinced Gyr had died, and seeing him practically unrecognizable just seals that in. He wants to believe this is Gyr, but he can't, it's only his face. This robot has his friend's face, but not his voice, not his body. Gyr then recalls a story Tolamis told him years ago, something that he never told another soul, so he starts crying, because wow... that's really him. He's really here, right in front of him.

Tolamis shows Gyr his prosthetic and is like "Look, I'm a robot just like you." and Gyr just laughs like "Oh wow, you really are! Now what happened for you to do that?"

"...I'm just a little clumsy, I guess!"

ive got some more Gyr story in the works that will not be expanded upon until after my finals on tuesday but I can’t fight it anymore. tolamis loves gyr. He loves gyr enough to kill a man

Gyr and Tolamis are both very not well versed in pop culture things. Tolamis was a knight for most of his life, and as such didn’t really watch TV. He doesn’t know what the internet is for the longest time.

Gyr, on the other hand, knew a bit more than Tolamis, but not much. Anything Tolamis would have known would have been from him. But then Gyr (I’m realizing now that I never posted the backstory so I’ll have to do that soon) has his memory mostly gone, and in slowly regaining it, doesn’t really regain anything about the previous season of New Girl
