Happy Friday, Moth!

I have two questions I've been putting off for two long to ask you:

What year was Rhosynel born? Do I remember correctly that she was born and raised in Rohan?

How open are you to "lending" Rhos to other authors to write into their AUs and fics? Yes? Maybe/it depends/under strict conditions? Absolutely not?

Asking for a friend, and that friend is me. :)

Hi hello friend, happy Friday to you as well!

Rhosynel was born in the same year as Faramir, 2983!

She was born in Edoras, but only just, as her mother Rhysnaur had been travelling while HEAVILY pregnant and only just made it to Edoras where Rhosynel was born a few days after their arrival. Can you see where she gets her reckless tendencies from??

But Rhosynel spent much of her childhood within and around Edoras, she'd frequently be found helping her mother at the stables, grooming the horses, cleaning the tack, taking them for rides exercise, and mucking out stalls. If she wasn't doing that, she'd either be hiding up in the hayloft to doodle in her sketch journal, or she'd be out exploring the surrounding landscape and getting into mischief with her sister and cousins! (Fun fact, she first met Boromir during this stage, neither of them remember the meeting!)

It wasn't until she turned 13 that her family moved back to Edoras, something she was NOT happy about. There was a brief period (approx 5 years) where her family would travel back and forth infrequently to meet up, but that slowly happened less and less while she was with the Rangers, until it stopped sometime in her mid-twenties. But by she turned 25 she'd joined the Messengers and had started running letters throughout Gondor, Rohan, even north to Dale and Bree on occasion!

Either way, there's a heavy amount of opportunities for her to be cropping up in Edoras and around Rohan!

As for your second question!

Short answer: HELL YES

Long answer: Yes within reason, ideally I'd prefer it if people dropped a message checking with me first! I love the idea of cameo's, whether that's just in the background our a minor talking role, I will be ECSTATIC either way! But if the role became more significant, I'd rather have an idea of what folk planned to do with her, even if it can't be much worse than what I've already done to her 😂

Rhosynel's Family & Cousins

Today it occurred to me that I STILL haven't finished creating these masterlist posts of families and face claims. I know full well why, and that is because I don't have the spoons to type up all their personalities. As such, I'm posting them regardless, just without in depth written information.

This list focuses on Rhosynel extended family, since they're closely linked, however it doesn't include the line of Isildur, as they'll have their own post later on.

Fan-Canon - Meaning characters who are either contextual ghosts, or filling places where a ghost SHOULD be

Fan Made - 100% original creation

To begin, here's the family tree I've created to keep track of everyone! Red indicates fan made, while orange is fan-canon, and lastly green is fully canon characters. Greyed out means they're dead and/or die at some point! Hopefully its fairly self-explanatory, and its up to date as of 11/04/2026!

On Swift Wings

Travelling through the Eastfold brought a burst of nostalgia, familiar rolling landscapes, the odd spur of craggy rocks, the low-level scrub and brush that marked the land as Rohan. It felt like returning home. The sun slowly climbing above the White Mountains, the golden light spilling across the grassland of Eastfold. She could follow the road with her eyes as it winded throughout the hillocks and hills, before vanishing into the shadows cast by the mountains above. The wind, while steady, wasn’t bitter. Even as it swept down from the White Mountains, across the rolling grassland, and into Rhosynel’s upturned face. Even the sun didn’t burn, bright, clear, and calm as it bathed the land in its light. Above, Ilmara gave a quiet whistle, and slowed her flight, coming to hover above Rhosynel for a moment, before gliding to the left. Trusting her bird more than her own eyes, she nudged Gwaedal off the road.

I am SO delighted with how this has come out! It's my first attempt at a 'painterly' background and boy howdy did I suffer loudly through it 😂 But what matters most is that I LOVE how it came out, especially once I got Rhosynel and Co. added to the image. I love doing line arts and colouring, so they were far more fun for me to do!

I'm really proud of how It's come out, so I hope you enjoy it too ❤️

OSW Chpt 74: Lords of Gondor

A list of Lords and Ladies of Gondor, created for the purpose of keeping track of Lords, their kin, and their areas of rule within the Regions of Gondor south of the White Mountains. This is created primarily for readers of On Swift Wings, as a lot of characters are going to be introduced during Chapter 74, and I thought it would be worth having a cheat sheet!

This list is specifically for the council meeting during chapter 74, later on I'll be making MORE lists for Rhosynel's family, the Stewards family and Isildur's line, and the Dol Amroth family, along with comprehensive list of the Lords and their families, as well as additional side character I wanted to put faces to. (There's a lot, I'm going to have so many lists.)

11) What was your inspiration for your OC?

I remember pretty clearly what inspired Rhosynel's design, and even have the images still on the pinterest board I made for her!

The blue tabard by Raine inspired Rhosynel's clothing, while the feather cloak by MissMonster inspired the Rovacol! As for her appearance, a lot of that came from figuring out her origins in Middle Earth, so I don't find faceclaims until waaaaay later (I also struggle to picture characters faces lol)

As for her backstory, that came about through figuring what I needed from her, I wanted Rhos to be well travelled, and I wanted her able to fight, so that produced the Messenger and Ranger backstory! It snowballed from there 😂

26) What flower do you associate your OC with?

Roses! Specifically I once saw a beautiful dark red rose with white flecks that looked like stars, which fits Rhosynel's name "Rose Star" very nicely! So I've decided Star Roses are a Thing in Middle Earth now, just because 😊

Asking 2 questions about Rhos! :)

What would they consider a waste of time– other than school or work?

What do they like that nobody else does?

After the ring is destroyed, Rhosynel finds herself navigating a new threat. The world of politics. Very quickly, she learns that she has zero tolerance for courtly traditions or expectations. Maybe there's a set way of Lords and Ladies intermingling, maybe they deem themselves needing a formal introduction to start speaking with new folk, or maybe they think they need to present a certain way to the court.

But Rhosynel isn't a Lady, she's not gentry, and she's not beholden to the same self-inflicted rules and expectations.

Needless to say, her behaviour ends up causing a bit of a stir.

She's incredibly quick to figure out which Lords to avoid, which Ladies to deflect, and which families within Gondor are worth getting to know. Any attempt to subtly pry or glean gossip, any suggestion of her ensnaring Gondor's most eligible bachelor, or speculation on her seducing Boromir, are swiftly met with a blunt answer, shooting down their accusations. Rhosynel isn't going to bandy gossip or trade thinly veiled insults, she's far too blunt, far too brash, and far too honest to be dealing with the farce.

True, she puts on a brave face and tolerates all of it, but at the end of the day, Rhosynel thinks the entire palaver is rather pointless!

Rhosynel loves heights, always has, always will.

While growing up in Edoras, she'd often sneak out of the city as a teenager, usually with her sister and cousins in tow, and the whole lot of them would head for Írensaga. But while the others would content themselves with exploring valleys or caves, hunting for game, or just mucking about between themselves, Rhosynel would climb.

Having little to no fear of heights meant she'd scale the mountain with ease, until she could find a high perch where she could settle and relax with her sketchbook. This tendency to scuttle up and down sheer rock faces with reckless abandon, soon got her a reputation of being a bit of a mountain goat. Admittedly this came with typical teenager bullying, but a brief scrap would nip that in the bud.

So naturally, when her family moved back to Minas Tirith, Rhosynel took one look at this city built into the side of a mountain, and said "I can climb that" and then did.

By the time she was in her late teens, Rhosynel had become a bit of a menace within the city, she was fast, she was nimble, and she could climb buildings and find perches. Needless to say, she spent most of her downtime hurtling about the city, learning unconventional shortcuts and taking risks. In other words, she was doing Middle Earth equivalent of parkour!

Perhaps lim noro would be a good translation? Swift running...

Fun fact! When it gets too hot at night in summer, she'll frequently climb onto the roof of her house to sleep on the tiles under the stars!

🪨 What’s the hardest choice they’ve ever made?

I think the hardest choice Rhosynel's even made, is choosing to live.

By now, I think everyone's fairly familiar with the fact that Rhosynel carries a lot of guilt and self-blame, even when something isn't her fault. That stems from when she was in the Rangers, her group -led by Faramir- attempted to intercept a pack of orcs, only to discover that a Nazgul was in their midst. Her partner Rainion was killed when Rhosynel was trying to draw the Nazgul's attention away from him, but it was her interference that only hastened his death, and resulted in being grievously injured herself.

The months following that attack were rough, not just because she'd been cut open from shoulder to hip and lost her lover, but because she was falling into a spiral of self-blame and despair. Healing was a long and arduous task, made all the harder because Rhosynel didn't want to heal. She was depressed and had lost her will to live, she became mute, wouldn't eat or drink unless forced, and spent all day every day staring into nothingness or sleeping fitfully. She only survived because her family was physically caring for her, feeding her, bathing and cleaning, all but forcing her through physio to recover. She would have died. Would have let herself die. Would have wasted away into nothingness.

Choosing not to die, choosing to drag herself out of that pit of despair was the hardest thing Rhosynel had ever done, and it was entirely due to the stubbornness of her family and the perseverance of her friends which encouraged her to live.
