This isnt working. Well, the bandgrind (Viking age weaving device, mostly for ribbons and such, that I finally put together from popsicle sticks x3) isn't the solution. Suspecting the warp need a different set-up. Also, the wheat straws are simply too hard and no puffiness, which seriously doesn't work.
Anyone knowing much about weaving or have Google magic that can give me some pointers as to how the cover of the tatami is woven? (All I find is the assembly of the whole tatami, or some so-so vids of a machine making them <.<)
I might end up just glueing paper thread together and shape the ridges cosmetically rather than by weave. Visually it would probably work well, but I'll need to explore the actual weaving options first ^^;;
