1. What do you consider a turning point in your life and why? Starting to go to PT in November. I was on medical leave, seeing numerous doctors for my tendinitis, feeling hopeless about grad school, and I was just home all the time. I felt really helpless and depressed and couldn't play tennis or pole dance. Cooking was difficult and I still can't drive or hold hands with my boyfriend without it hurting or going numb. Once I started going to a good physical therapy place, I started feeling better and more empowered. I started going to the gym and looking into volunteer opportunities. Now I'm volunteering at two wonderful agencies, going to a cc for prereqs for a degree in nutrition, and love going to the gym. I've accepted that my injury is going to take a long time to heal and it is not the end of the world for me. 2. Name one contradictory advice you’ve received or heard. "Don't let them upset you/get to you." -My family. Which is ironic to me, because they are the largest source of criticism and anxiety for me. They clearly don't care whether they're upsetting me or not (or at least it seems that way sometimes". 3. What quote (famous person or loved one) always cheers you up when you read it? "I was like, Am I gay? Am I straight? And I realized...I'm just slutty. Where's my parade?" -Margaret Cho 4. What are some traits you can’t help being? Over-analytical. OCD tendencies (locking car/doors, double and triple checking mult. choice answers, always checking for my wallet/keys/ID to make sure I haven't left anything behind). Angry. Need to please. Judgmental (at times). Empathetic. 5. Philosophical question, “Should I hate the tiger for playing with its food? Or the snake for not killing faster?” If you like dark, twisted, and/or scary things, why? Hm. I don't hate the tiger or the snake for their predatory behavior, this is their natural way of hunting, no? It's their way of survival. I am easily disturbed by things, but I am attracted to darker things. Law and order svu is one of my favorite shows and I have always had a fascination with sociopaths/psychopaths/serial killers. I wonder if we are really so fundamentally different from the people who commit horrible violent crimes-nature or nurture? In another lifetime, could I have had the capacity to murder? 6. What are some topics you could go on and on and on and on about? Harry Potter, sex, BDSM, sexuality, feminism, and Pokemon!!! 7. What does it take for you to get close to someone or someone to get close to you? What may prevent you? Mutual interests, beliefs, and respect. The rest is up to time spent together. Manipulative behavior or racist/sexist/homophobic attitude from someone will always keep me at bay. 8. Most devastating, feels-wrenching moment in fiction you can remember. Snape's pensieve memories in HP7. 9. What is something you wish someone taught you earlier? If you want someone to hear you, speak softly. Raising your voice most often hurts the situation more than it can help. 10. So what exactly are your plans for taking over the world? Destroy the stigma of mental health and talking about suicide. Tell young girls that they are beautiful the way they are. Show young boys that it's ok to show emotion. Destroy the patriarchy. Support better sex ed. in schools. Educate older generations about gender identity and sexual orientation. Teach acceptance. And make some bomb ass cake pops.
