A Baking Timeout
I have recently finished the 12 day Wild Rose cleanse, which I try to do every six months or so. This has been the main reason for my lack of baking over the last couple of weeks. On this cleanse I am allowed to eat as much as I want as long as the foods are on the "Acceptable" list. Flours, of any kind, are not allowed. Nor are any sweeteners, even natural ones. Some may argue that I still could've baked throughout but I am a firm believer in taste testing the products I make. So I figured a little time out was called for.
So now that my cleanse is done I shall be getting back to it more regularly. Last week I made Brown Rice Crispy Protein Bars from the Dashing Dish and they were amazing! Compliments all around from my co-workers with the small suggestion of leaving the chocolate topping optional. The recipe called for Vanilla protein powder but I used Chocolate Hemp protein, so that, with the added chocolate layer on top was a bit much for some. Fair enough. Not everyone is a chocolate fiend like myself.
I have to admit I do find it a little harder to be in my kitchen with a hot oven whilst the sun is shining and the temperatures are rising but I have a backlog of recipes I am dying to try so I am committed to getting through them.
Also, I am super excited about summer and the upcoming weekly farmer's markets that pop up all over Vancouver each year. I am applying to have a table at the one near my apartment in downtown Vancouver. I plan on selling 5 - 10 different items that I have tested a number of times and then also offering made-to-order items as well.
Stay tuned to find out which dates I'll be at the market and be sure to stop by if you live in Vancity!
