old art i still find funny
i love how hijack possessing spender is like. by the end it's anti wish fulfillment. you get everything you could want, some self awareness, some comfort, the perfect pages of reconciliation between him and isabel.
but then it's not real. it's not even bittersweet. on a reread it's worse, because you see that fragile olive branch and see how it's going to get stepped on by spender himself just some pages later.
it's wish fulfillment to have that trusted authority figure finally see You, and see the weight on you, and offer to help you carry it. but that's not them. normal!spender and hijack!spender are fundamentally incompatible, because at this point richard's incompetence as a mentor is too deeply woven with his other shortcomings. it's a cornerstone of his character. even if he wasn't totally out of it because of the ghost train incident, he might try but he still wouldn't say the right words.
