A new petition had been created for Richard Glossip, a very potentially innocent man still set to be executed, although the date is not known. Oklahoma has agreed to postpone all executions until 150 days after the information and decisions about the drug mix up have been made public, meaning the earliest would be spring next year.
Last month Richard was less than an hour away from execution when he was granted a stay. He had been sat waiting for a long time in the cell next to the death chamber, in nothing but his boxers. When he asked for his clothes back as he was cold, he was simply given a sheet. He asked what was happening and then why he got a stay, yet no one would tell him or let him contact his attorneys.
Now it’s been revealed that Oklahoma had potassium acetate instead of the approved drug, potassium chloride. Apparently some people where asking to go ahead anyway, even though the dosage for this new drug is unknown. Thankfully, they called off his execution and are now investigating into their procedures.
In a recent podcast by Sky reporter Ian Woods, Richard said about the effects on his health all this stress has had on him. He’s lost an extreme amount of weight, saying you can see his bones through his shirt. Sister Helen Prejean has said he’s finding it difficult to sleep, and one of his friends had even said she believes he’s suffering from a kind of PTSD.
I think this is disgusting. To take a human being and tell them they are going to die, just to then take it back. It’s torture and very traumatising.
