Richard Littlejohn's Apt Website Cartoon.
We all love idling the hours away over at richardlittlejohn.net but what is the man himself saying about... um... himself?
This frightfully swish cartoon pride of place, top left, depicts Littlejohn dipping his nib in a bottle of what? What is that? Toxic something? Poison?
I've dabbled in graphic design a little and tinkered with the notion of symbolism and I realise that a picture can say a thousand words and it is worth thinking about the meaning of every aspect of an image.
If I were Littlejohn, I would pick something else to go on the side of my ink bottle...
Ideas for Richard's ink bottle
Littlejohn could be dipping his nib into a pot of justice, suggesting to his readership "I'm telling it like it is, damn the consequences, damn the liberal woofter's, here's the truth!"
He could be doing the obvious play about how his pen is mightier than a sword - although if he's dipping his pen in a sword pot, it's actually saying: 'My pen is a sword... there's sword-juice in my pen...' It would perhaps suggest that the meaning of the saying the pen is mightier than the sword has been confused - which would suggest that his writing is confused and oblique in character.
Instead he opted for a pot of poison. What is Littlejohn saying about his own writing? Is it that it's toxic? Is it that he's poisonous? Or is he suggesting that his writing can kill people like Lucy Meadows? I just don't know.
I can only suggest though, for the good of your heath, you take the warning on the bottle seriously and don't read it.
