what if the comedy and entertainment were yaoi
To go against what is predestined, one must jump. So he did.
It’s finally done!!! Known as my ‘'lobotomy essay”, this one was a long time coming, and I’m very pleased with the way it turned out.
This two-part essay is a rumination on our innate psychological need for closure and, by that metric, certainty in our desperately uncertain world. But beyond that, it is a deep dive into how the pursuit of certainty can yield horrors beyond our imagination, as analyzed through the manga Golden Kamuy, the 2018 film The Mountain, the 1988 film The Vanishing, and The Eff★ect, a play by Lu★cy Preb★ble.
But that's a mouthful so here's a bulleted list of what you can expect to find in this essay:
A thorough analysis of Tsurumi Tokushirou’s character alongside Walter Freeman, the father of the lobotomy, through the lens of French Philosopher Georges Bataille’s book Eroticism: Death & Sensuality.
An interrogation of the “Franz Kafka and the Doll” story floating around the internet, and how complex a story woven for a grieving little girl can be before it becomes an insidious lie.
Rationalizing Schrodinger’s Cat thought experiment through Ursula K. Le Guin’s short story of the same name.
A boy and the many ledges he jumps off.
Placebos.
The Cinderella story of a man and a bucket.
A shit ton of footnotes.
The forced marriage between a man and his camera.
Eternity.
Koito and Tsukishima hijinks.
A mailman who may or may not be a dog.
and...a love story?
I’m really excited to hear your thoughts on this one as I shift gears and start working on the next one! Thank you for your support!!!
