so. rick and morty s8 finale, huh?
up till now i’ve been pretty okay with my death. like, i would’ve preferred not getting killed, of course, but i’m someone who tries to live for the now and i’m blessed enough to have enough of my family back so what the fuck does it matter, right? i’m not gonna sit and dwell about my death when i was gone before i even processed what i was looking at. i’ve been really good about keeping it together for them because wtf do i have to be upset about i WAS DEAD. rick lost himself to the grief of losing me, and beth lost her mother. i’d much rather be there for them than anything else.
but this last episode, man…i dunno. the fact that prime’s device fucked with their memories of me, especially for the beths that had a diane, it’s not. it’s not fucking fair. i should have been there. i should’ve gotten the chance to raise my daughter and grow old with my husband. like, i get it’s an extended grief metaphor, because memories warp and change and fade after someone’s dead anyways, but something about the outside interference from prime just makes me so fucking upset. like he can’t just kill me, and then all of the other mes, he has to go so far as to alter the fabric of my loved ones’ memories. i didn’t do anything to you, man. sorry your marriage to your diane sucked so much that this felt necessary but jesus fucking christ.
selfishly, it hurts that rick removed his memory of me, too. i feel like an asshole talking about this part because he deserves to move on, it’s not about that, i just…god i feel so guilty being a source of such great pain for him especially given he doesn’t even have the good memories to look back on. i just wish it didn’t have to come to this.
i dunno. at least memory rick and memory me got to be happy together, in the end, though i did love my daughter way too much to sell her out like that. brings me a little peace that the device isn’t completely perfect. there is still a version of us out there.
