Send me a number from this list and a pairing. I will write you a drabble!
Sometimes, in the early morning, when everyone else is still asleep in their beds, Daryl will spirit way Lil’ Asskicker from her father’s room. He takes her into the common area, crawling on top of a cafeteria table and pressing his legs together, gently laying the squirming baby in his lap, who smiles and laughs up at him.
Today was one of those mornings; though admittedly, Judith was soon going to outgrow the length of Daryl’s thighs, where she currently lays on her back smiling up at her adopted uncle, reaching for a lock of his dark hair as he leans over her with a soft smile reserved specifically for her. She wiggles, as babies are wont to do, and Daryl lays a large hand against her fragile rib cage to keep her from rolling off his legs.
"Ya’ already practicin’ ya’ runnin’ ain’t ya’?" He huffs a bit of laughter, referring to the way she pounds her tiny feet against his chest. He leans farther over her, nuzzling his nose on her stomach where her little shirt has risen up. She squeals with delight and he is half afraid that she’s gonna wake the whole cell block. He looks up at her with a tsk and a thinly veiled look of disapproval, which she obviously doesn’t understand. Before he can move away she reaches up and grabs on to a particularly long piece of hair that hangs between his eyes, wrapping her fist around her prize with a happy gurgle.
He attempts to pull away but she’s got a determined grip on him and he sighs, trying to untangle her fingers but she ignores his larger fingers gripping his wrist gently. “C’mon now, let me go.” He chides gently but she just kicks her feet against his chest again, wiggling so much she almost slips off of him except for the fact he grabs her with both hands around the middle. In almost the same instant something hard collides with the side of his head, smacking against the soft indent of his temple. He jerks his head on instinct, enough to pull his hair out of her baby fist.
Daryl sits up, looking down at Judith’s now glassy, big bambi eyes, and the pucker of her lips. He rubs at his head about to make a snide comment to the baby when he hears a soft chuckle. He looks up to see Rick leaning against a pole not far from them. He narrows his eyes slightly at the man, more annoyed with himself for not having heard him then with Rick for spying.
"Mornin’," Rick greets, amusement dripping from his voice as he saunters towards Daryl and his daughter, a crooked grin hanging on his lips.
"Yer daughter’s tryin’ ta’ take me out." Daryl harrumphs at him as he scoops Judith from Daryl’s lap.
Rick bounces Judith on his hip, smiling at his daughter with a dopey look on his face that Daryl thinks is one part ridiculous and nine parts absolutely enchanting. Rick glances sidelong at him, his gaze softening, though still keeps Daryl’s attention to fixated. He leans forwards, bracing himself on one of Daryl’s knees, and brushes his lips against the temple that Judith had previously assulted with her foot.
Daryl leans into the touch, turning his nose into the curve of Rick’s neck, before he pulls away. Daryl reaches a hand up and pushes at Rick’s shoulder lightly. “Mornin’, ya’ softie.”
Rick just lifts an eyebrow with a huff of a laugh once he sees the mirrored smirk on Daryl’s face.
WOW, sorry. Don’t really know where that came from. My muse exploded last night after I broke my writer’s block dam I guess.
