H.R.H. Princess Birgitta will be taken to her final rest on December 15, 2024. The funeral service will take place in Drottningholm's Palace Church and the burial will take place at the Royal Cemetary in Hagaparken.
In accordance with Princess Birgitta's wishes, the ceremonies will be kept private for family and specially invited guests.
H.M. The King has decided that the flags at the Royal Palace, Drottningholm Palace and Haga Palace are to be flown at half-mast during the funeral day. After the burial, the flags are raised at the top.
Princess Birgitta was appointed a member and commander of the Order of the Seraphim on March 22, 1952. As a member of the Seraphim Order, Princess Birgitta is honoured with a seraphim toll in the Riddarholm Church on the day of the funeral. The church bell rings at 12:00-13:00. The Riddarholm Church is open to visitors during the ringing.
For those who wish to offer their condolences on the occasion of Princess Birgitta's passing, lists are available in the State Hall at the Royal Palace at 10:00–13:00 and in the Riddarholm Church at 12:00–13:00 on the day of the funeral.
The Royal Cemetery in Hagaparken is open on Monday, December 16 at 11:00–14:00 for those who wish to visit Princess Birgitta's grave.
Princess Birgitta's funeral service in Drottningholm's palace church and subsequent burial at the Royal Cemetery is not open to the media. The Riddarholm Church is open to media representatives who wish to cover the seraphim toll service.
