re: age, I turned 30 a couple of weeks ago. honestly it's the best, and literally everyone I've talked to who is 30+ has said the exact same thing about turning 30. every single person, regardless of gender. I feel like a Real Adult now, and that comes with a type of confidence I couldn't have imagined or understood when I was in my 20s.

I think growing older is a gift. the passage of time can bring wisdom and understanding if you work on developing those traits. getting older means having more opportunities and more skills to do good things for yourself and others.

If you are a marginalized person, there is real power in getting older because it means you are surviving under systems that would prefer your subjugation and/or extermination. as a trans man, I take great pleasure in that, especially as many politicians and groups in my country, the United States, are trying so hard to kill me and my community by denying us access to things that save our lives and prevent our early deaths. just as delicious is the knowledge that my continued existence drives transphobic members of the queer community absolutely bonkers lol it's the ultimate power move to do nothing less than live my life as a trans man.

I think it's worth asking ourselves: why are we afraid of getting older? what do we believe the consequences will be? are these fears and beliefs realistic?

also critical is asking ourselves where these fears and beliefs come from and whether we can trust those sources to tell us the truth.

in another life, Neal is a professional art conservationist (conservator? which just sounds wrong to me because conservator means something different in American law) and Matthew brings an old family painting in to be conserved. Neal does an incredible job, naturally, and Matthew asks him out on a date????

Matt stares at the restored art, utterly speechless. It looks... transcendent. Holy.

Fucking magnificent.

When he can pull his eyes away from the piece, minutes or hours later, he looks at the restorer. Takes in his clean jawline, all the perfectly correct lines of his body. And wants him, so utterly and completely he's overwhelmed. He takes a few breaths, then touches his tongue to his top lip. Grins.

"Work that good? Deserves dinner." Turns to the artist, crowding too close. Still grinning. "Name a place, sweetheart. My treat."

It's Charles' own fault he took his eyes off the baking for two minutes. "Who knew eating frosting could be such great exercise?" Riley asks, openly dunking a spoon into the bowl of fresh frosting to scoop it into her gullet.

Charles turned around; elbow-deep in flour, he hadn't heard his daughter approach. He turned towards her, taking note of her playful eyes and bright smile, and burst out laughing.

"I suppose you could call it that," he mused. "I find myself working exp-ponentially faster if I know there's leftover frosting to enjoy."

Quite on the contrary, I do believe we are facing a common threat; one you will need a force of mages to overcome. I believe I can assist you in finding them.”

She found him a few hours ago in the snow. "He will have to tear me limb from limb first. And you are never leaving me behind again, do you fucking understand me?"

      “It was the only thing we could do,” Caleb insists, equal parts exhausted and stubborn as he fights back another shiver. Despite the warmth of the tent and the blankets drawn around him, it feels like the cold’s settled deep into his bones. He wonders if he’ll ever be rid of it. “It would’ve been worse if he’d gone after everyone.” He squeezes Riley’s hands as firmly as his stiff hands are able to. “I understand,” he assures, managing a small smile. And he does understand that. It won’t stop him from insisting if it’s for the best, but he does understand.

Riley's gonna give this boy a good hug. It's very secure and warm and she rests her head on his shoulder and then gives that tiny little squeeze to show she really means the hug

Quentin, startled, takes a moment to react, but then he hugs Riley back just as tightly, thinking she might need it as much as he does.

   “It’s alright to be angry, you know.” The Doctor didn’t doubt that Neal meant what he said -- but emotions were rarely straightforward, especially for humans. Even more so for young humans. He sat cross-legged on one of the console room’s seats, looking awkward and unbalanced on a chair that wasn’t built for that kind of posture. “You should talk about it. Keeping it in your heart is only going to make it hurt more.”
