The #ringhilted #bastardsword was the furthest from the fire and wasn't hit by the fire hose. Since it was sheathed at the time of the fire, it really only had some soot coating the grip, pommel, crossguard, and sheath. The leather of the grip and sheath were pretty clean. They're likely finished in some pretty good oils and didn't really absorb anything, but just in case I rubbed on a coat of beeswax- if there is anything in the fibers of the leather, it shouldn't be coming out any time soon. The pommel, hilt, throat and chape of the scabbard were all coated with a gross layer of soot. As with the bronze sword cleaning last night, #steelwool made short work of it. While I was at it, I polished and oiled the blade as well. The next project will be much more of a project, and I expect it will not be so easy... https://www.instagram.com/p/CCXnMpkJ5CX/?igshid=178efgfdt0567
