          “------See anything up ahead?” He feels like he’s putting a little too much trust in DedSec these days. Used to be there was a time he would have avoided them like the fucking plague. (Chicago didn’t help that much. Fucking Daves.) Yet here he is, Otsi’sta’s voice in his ear, letting her direct him through a building full of people who would really, really love to see him dead. One false move on her part and he’s leaving it in a body bag.

So. Yeah. Quite a bit of trust being put in her hands. He’s hoping that it isn’t misplaced.

she remember’s the days when she worked with her teammate violet carter   .   violet (   mostly known as “   vi   “   ) was young   ,   but she was very tech savvy and intelligent   .   there were days where mia couldn’t imagine how she ended up in pandora   . . .   but like every one of them   ,   something happened that individually changed them   .   and those days were long gone by now   ,   now she was in search of another to help her with a tricky situation of her’s   .   luckily she had just the person in mind that may be interested in the task   .   usually mia didn’t have to try and convince her   . . .    even though getting involved with the fixer   .   is often dangerous   ,   even for the support she recieves   .   mia opened the door to the bar to which otsi'tsa worked at   .   

sauntering inside she came up to the bar   ,   all seats taken   .   so the brunette just rested her folded arms against the edge of the surface   .   she searched across the room until her eyes rested upon the hacker   .   who was currently busy pouring a drink for a patron   .   a lopsided smile formed on her face once their eyes met and the realization who mia was coming like a light bulb on the top of the other’s head   .   “   can i get a whiskey   ,   straight   .   “ she announced once otsi’tsa was close enough   .

     ✖ ❝ You know I don’t drink. ❞ That wasn’t the point, in fact it had never been called into question,    but Kaey was feeling sorry for himself & when he felt that way he shut down.  He doesn’t want to talk about this, he doesn’t want to breathe anymore, but he knew she was trying her best,   & that she cared,   & those two things were enough to prompt him into living for the moment.       Kaey didn’t want to tell her no,   & he didn’t want to tell her yes, so that was all that would come from his tongue. Still, he followed her motion,   albeit reluctantly. ❝ I know what you’re thinking: that I’m being unfair. ❞ & maybe he was, saying he had no home, but grief was prone to exaggerate.

     ✖ ❝ Jesus, when did you become so fuckin’--? ❞ Kaeyonari trails off in frustration, running first one hand then the other through his hair.   He’s angry,  & hurt,  & he just wants everything to stop,    just for a little while,   so he can think & figure everything out.   But Otsi had never been one to let him stagnate,  & he knew exactly when she had become this way,  so caring & assertive;   she’d always been like this,  since the day he had met her, & only at times like this did it drive him crazy. Because she was right, like always. ❝ I hate you, talking sense.  Ell would be so proud. ❞ & maybe that was why he still sought her out,  kept her around,  because she reminded him of his sister. Illenar had always been good at calling him out, too.

james is fairly certain that otsi'tsa grant would rather torch her eclectic collection of combat boots than be seen as anything remotely resembling vulnerable, break both her legs before she showed any kind of emotional weakness. so hearing how her voice shakes just that little bit as she glances away, finding the fog-covered, post-rain petrichor of the city an easier sight than james’ own hard gaze, james knows the trust behind it.

the last op had been hard. things had gone wrong. and james sees it, too, as a personal failure; part of wearing the title of leader is giving them the tools to do their job, to stay safe— and when they’re hurt, when there are mistakes and discrepancies, he can’t help but feel partially responsible. otsi’s distress mirrors and intensifies his own.

he lets out a hum, for once gentler than the weather around them. mid-november brings a chill that matches the frown usually set on his face, but tonight, something resembling reassurance cracks through.

             “it gets better,” he says, voice soft. “it just takes time.“
