I imagine both the twins change up their hairstyle at some point while on the first. Alisaie cuts it some point after Deidre arrives while Alphinaud has been growing his out for a while. By the time Deidre meets up with him the layers are gone and it's just about to his shoulders.
She ABSOLUTELY teases him for growing it out because Estinien has long hair and then reminds him he has Bangs. Just. "It Took SEVEN MOONS to get rid of the bangs I HAD! I am not Cutting New Ones!!!!"
His soul is Absolutely Crushed when they get back to the source and he realizes he'll have to start the growing-out phase completely over again while his sister can just cut it and be done.
