#RIP Angela Laverne Brown, known professionally as Angie Stone.
December 18, 1961 – March 1, 2025
DID YOU KNOW: Although Grammy nominated R&B Soul singer, Angie Stone, has no directing credits on the project, she was tasked with directing the vocal arrangements of the song "Freedom (Theme from Panther)". "I had the luxury of giving each one of the girls a line of the song. There were more girls than there were lyrics, so I had to create background parts".
She got candid in a video speaking on her experience with the project. "I was a trailblazer in the industry. I had just come across a good publishing deal. I was enlisted (because I was known as a person that was just a hard worker and could get the job done), and they had put together a movie called Panther and they needed someone who could handle 100 women or more on a song. The song was penned by Big Gibs wife (Joy) and the song was titled 'Freedom'".
In the video she mentions how Aaliyah was the absolute most pleasant to work with.
I tried to look up details of Angie directing the vocal arrangments but there is no mention anywhere. Make sure you all give her her flowers! That was a HUGE job and Angie nailed that!

Rest in Heavenly Peace to the neo-soul Grammy nominated singer/actress Angela Laverne Stone December 18, 1961 – March 1, 2025.
Stone passed away yesterday due to a vehicle accident in Montgomery, Alabama. She and her band members were traveling to Atlanta following a concert in Mobile, Alabama, when their Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van was involved in a vehicle collision; her vehicle “flipped over and was subsequently hit by a big rig,”. Everyone else in the cargo van survived except Stone. She was 63.
Per articles I have read, the vehicle flipped 3 times before being struck by the truck. It is unclear what caused the van to flip, and if Stone was wearing a seatbelt.
This is just a reminder that LIFE is fragile and precious. No one is guaranteed later today let alone tomorrow.
