Harsh Lines (In Reflection of the Baltimore Protests)

The area between my brows is in a harsh line. A line created by the lines of fire targeting our brothers and sisters. By the lines of melanin that have to stand likes it's the 1960s. By the verbal lines of ignorance and dismissal from pretentious mouths. In a matter of 24 hours I've seen structures burned, threats spewed and objects thrown at the system by some of my brothers and sisters. Though I don't condone the inflict of pain, we have endured more than a flick of pain that leads us to fight with more than just a flick of the tongue. When the system says it wants peace, they're requesting silence. They think we should remain silent for their own sanity because apparently ours is too great to maintain. Shame on the system that requests peaceful protests because marching in "peace" gives them a reason to argue that their is tranquility among the impoverished, uneducated and people who's dreams have been limited. Their peace is our nightmare. While they slumber soundly, fears of police brutality invade our dreams and remain as continuous night terrors that prolong throughout our days. Never did I think I'd see this still occurring today. But what do you expect when our lady liberty hails across the sea wearing a robe of antiquity. In other words, she is a representation of the ideal human being. White. That I learned from art history. There's been so much gray weather that all I want to see is the May weather punching beams of cease fire from the sky so that our reality can shine rays of change for the oppressed....but until then these harsh lines of mine settle like the drearyness of the rain that continues to pour on all that is black. It scares me that any of my 3 brothers could walk outside at any time and get killed by a man in a uniform for no reason at all. And even better- the man in a uniform can get away with it because of the color of his skin and the fact that he wears a badge. Now I won't openly say fuck the police, because just like all white people aren't racist, all Muslims aren't terrorists & all blacks aren't "thugs"- all cops aren't pigs. But most are. And for some reason I get on social media and see white people defend a city- a fucking city before they would defend a life. Lemme let you in on a little secret- Baltimore was fucked up before the riot. The city was being treated poorly before anything even jumped off- so unless you live in Baltimore, sit your irrelevant ass down. We are a people, fighting for our rights and the lack of respect towards us while we do so is horrendous. I only ask of one thing- RESPECT. Our ancestors built this country, and we get nothing in return. Don't forget it was the black folk that raised your white folks children, cleaned and added some flavor to your seasonless meals. No shade but shade. And to my black brothers and sisters, continue to be you as black and proud as you can possibly be.
