Rippling Surface || closed rp
Cold gripped the hunter’s skin, chilling her to the bone as her boots crunched over fallen, brown leaves that were waiting to decay in the change from fall to the quickly approaching winter. Stopping abruptly, the toes of her boots were nestled at the edge of the dark lake, moonlight filtering through the clouds, casting a silver, glittering reflection over the rippling surface of the water.
Onyx had been here earlier in the day with Sam and Dean. They’d scoured the area fully for clues as to what happened to seventeen year old Amelia Beckett. She’d gone missing a week ago and there’d been no sign of a struggle, no body, no nothing. It was as if the lake had just swallowed her whole.
Green eyes danced over the surface of the water, looking for anything at all, but all was still save for the natural current caused by the breeze. The longer she gazed over the lake, the less she felt she could move. It was like being hypnotized by the inky darkness. So much though that it became almost inviting.
Shaking the feeling off, the hunter sunk to her knees, feeling like her legs just couldn’t hold her anymore as the dark, void of water rose to meet her, lapping at pale, porcelain skin. It was frigid.... colder than the air around her, but she couldn’t look away and she couldn’t stand. Instead, she let out a gasp as what felt like hundreds of hands grabbed for her at once, none of them making contact except to drag their long, spindly fingers across her skin.
The next thing she knew, the water was all around her. She’d been drug in. It saturated her clothes, weighing her down, filling her nose, mouth, and lungs with startlingly cold water. She couldn’t breathe. She couldn’t move at all. Her body ached, urging her to fight, but she was too numb. It was too cold.... too hard to move.
Emerald hues darted to the surface, the moon no longer visable. Around her was nothing but an all encompassing, empty void, until right before her eyes, a face came to view, only centimeters from her own. The skin was white and shriveled, having been in the water for days. The hair was jet black just like her own and for a moment, despite her fear of what seemed like certain death, her heart lept, urging her, begging her to reach out.
When she finally willed her hands to move, fingers barely brushing over the other’s cheek, their eyes flew open, and instead of the gorgeous blue hues she’d come to know and love, a black, endless gaze stared back, a smile forming over the face that had once been that of her little brother. Now it was stacked with sharp, jagged teeth that felt like the rocks at the bottom that threatened to be her grave.
In a single movement, the only one she could muster, the hunter screamed, splitting the quit night as sweat clung to her body and she sat up straight in bed. The room was dark, just as dark as the vast emptiness of the lake and she found herself trembling as he lungs sucked in air that she was sure they’d been deprived of while she choked, tears streaming down her face.
