#RalphieMay one of the funniest guys that inspired me to try and become a stand-up comedian. He did not give a shit and spoke his mind and was hilarious in the process. Ralphie May was one of my oldest friends in comedy. He played some of my first shows at the Laugh Factory back in 2001/2002. He was always so warm and welcoming and cool to me. Always called me Benny and made me feel like he truly cared about me. In like 2003/2004 I got to open for him and Lahna Turner over New Year's Weekend at the Ontario Improv. It was the fist time I ever got to work for someone on the road. He always had such strong opinions about everything in life, even off stage. Learned a lot watching him. A master of his craft. A true force of nature on stage. So damn funny and so prolific. But equally a force of nature off stage. He had kind of a Godfather of comedy presence. But always with a smile. Asked how you were and really wanted to know. We didn't see much of each other in the last decade, only rarely running into each other. But last year at the Montreal JFL festival I saw him for the first time in many years, by the circle bar, posted up in a corner with his crew all around him. I came over and he invited me to sit with him and we caught up. Was so glad we had that chance. That's when I asked if we could take these pics. I'll miss him. Anyone who knew him will.
