Chapter 3
5/5/2036
12:03 pm
Phillip merrily strolled into the security break room to see Daniel dunking a rich tea biscuit into his cuppa. ‘’Ah old friend. How was your leave time?’’ asked Dan.
‘’Good’’ exclaimed Phillip ‘’very relaxed at most.’’
‘’I see how’s the cub? ‘’
‘’Sprouting like a weed. Still keeping us up at night’’
‘’They’ll do that to you. Tea?’’
‘’Yeah thanks.’’ Phillip by this point had sat himself at the round table opposite Dan and had begun to munch on a biscuit.
‘’Well they get easier you know. Got two of my own.’’ Said Dan.’’ Well, easy till they reach their teens. Then it’s hard again.’’ Dan passed a mug of warm tea to Phillip.
‘’Awwwhh cheers dear’’ said Phillip.
‘’What have I told you about calling me that boy.’’ They both sat opposite to each other with playful smirks, when there was a sharp knock at the door. ‘’Enter’’ Dan responded loudly. The door squeaked open to reveal a short smartly dressed fox. Her ears stood tall with tuffs of fur flying from the top.
‘’Good afternoon I'm looking for Mr Rikka?’’
‘’That would be him my dear’’ responded Dan pointing at the wolf across from him. Phillip turned to face the fox, a biscuit in his mouth.
‘’I see’’ she said looking at her feet with a small smile. ‘’well’’ she continued looking up at him. ’’You’ve been requested to be seen up in the main office. Top floor at 1:00, I recommend not being late. I shall see you their sir.’’ She left the room shutting the door behind her.
‘’Well that was random’’ said Phillip.
‘’I think she liked you boy. And you do know who that is right? And who’s office you’re going to?’’ said Dan.
‘’No, why?’’
‘’Well that fox is the sister to Hannah Burtons. The joint owner of this company and her office is the only one on the top floor.’’
‘’Ah I see. That bad or good’’?’’
‘’ I don’t know you haven't done anything wrong so I'm guessing good. But let me put it this way, I’ve never been requested there. And I'm head of security, anyway I’ve got a shift to get to. Oh and don’t worry about your shifty. Just chill here till your meeting. I’ll catch you later.’’
‘’Yeah you too mate’’ replied Phillip, as he sat there with a slight look of fear on his face.
12:53
Phillip stepped out of the elevator to a 2 story high room with a glass roof above him raining sunshine from the midday sun. Before him lay a desk. Stood in front of it was the fox from earlier, she turned to look over and quickly turned away again towards the rabbit on the opposite side. Phillip approached the desk . ‘’Errm excuse me’’ he said. The fox turned and adjusted her waistcoat.
‘’Mr Rikka. Welcome’’ she said holding out her paw. Phillip shook her paw.
‘’I'm Casey Burtons. It’s a pleasure.’’ She removed a fob watch from her pocket and clicked open the front. “You’re early. Nice to see.’’
‘’Thank you. I aim to please.’’
‘’Good. Now please follow me’’ Casey lead Phillip round to the side of the desk to a set of large double doors with a set of chairs to the left of the door facing out of a large ceiling height window. ‘’Please take a seat Hannah will be with your shortly’’ she walked away back to the desk and continued talking to her friend.
Phillip sat and waited for this Hannah to emerge. He glanced down at his watch. 12:57. ‘’Still 3 minutes’’ he thought. He raised to his feet and walked over to the window before him. The view was spectacular. A clear sky over a lush green country side. Filled with forests and lakes. He stood stroking his chin admiring this view before him.
‘’Mr Rikka I presume?’’ came a voice from behind him. He turned to see a tall fox with small pointy ears and large blue eyes. She wore a dark green smart buttoned shirt with the sleeve rolled up just above her elbows. ‘’a pleasure to finally meet you sir’’ she held her paw out. ‘’Hannah Burtons, it’s a pleasure I'm sure.’’
Phillip firmly shook her paw ‘’indeed it is ma’am.’’ replied Phillip politely.
‘’Please, Hannah’s fine. I'm not the general of this company.’’
‘’Then what are you may I ask... Hannah?’’
‘’I'm in charge of tech. This is why I asked you here. Please’’ she said as she pushed her office door open. ‘’step into my office’’
The office was a long room with a sloping glass roof down towards the far end of the room. Her desk was facing towards the door with a large swivel chair on the opposite side and a small office chair on the other. In the left hand corner was a coat rack with a long 18th century coat hanging from it, along with a tricorn hat balanced on top. Hannah walked around to her side of the desk and sat herself down. She held her paw flat towards the chair opposite her. ‘’please Mr Rikka. Take a seat.’’ ‘’ or do you prefer Phillip?’’ Hannah asked as he as himself down.
Chapter 2 continued
Phillip stepped out of the locker room. The young wolf was dressed in a smart white shirt. Along with a waist coat black with green accents complete with its own over coat. On his lower half were a pair of smart trousers and large military boots.
‘’nice to see it fits mate’’ responded Dan.
‘’the fits fine what gets me is the temperature. I feel fine, would have thought it would be boiling in all this’’ replied Phillip.
‘’ah right. Its Shadowwolf tech. The fabric does literally breathe, Keeps you at a steady temperature. You’ll never be too hot or cold in those clothes.’’ Dan began to lead Phillip back to the main entrance.
‘’You’ll have a pretty simple job my friend. Watch the door and check the passes. Simple.’’ Dan stood Phillip at the door.
‘’stay. Ok. I’ll be right back.’’ Phillip responded with a polite nod.
‘’well here we go’’ he thought.

Chapter 2
5/5/2031 6am
Phillip left his house and walked towards his pickup truck, parked on the small drive, where the truck seemed to bulge over the drive. He climbed inside and brought the engine to life. The roar rolled over the empty hills as he put her in reverse and pulled off into the narrow lane. The sun was already rising over the hills and flooded the lane with light as he drove his truck along them. It was a half an hour drive to the shadowwolf security offices. Along narrow country lanes and the odd main road.
Phillip pulled off the main road, onto the last lane of the journey. As he drove through the dense trees, to his left you could just make out the remote shadowwolf tower. As the trees cleared the sun hit the car causing Phillip to move the cars sun guard to his left. He took a look in that direction and was greeted by the tower standing tall and proud in the centre of forest, the sun just poking out from the side of the tower, it was only a quick glance before the building disappeared behind the trees once more. As he entered the turn for the drive way to the building, he saw a security check point directly ahead. A tall German Sheppard stepped into the road ahead and held his hand out. Phillip rolled his truck to a stop in front of the dog and lowered his window. ‘’Good morning sir’’ said the guard. ‘’What is your reason for visiting sir?’’ Phillip reached over, grabbing the documentation for his job interview and passed it to the guard. ‘’I’m here for my interview’’ Phillip exclaimed. ‘’Ahh ok sir, one second please.’’ The guard took the paper work into the small security booth, he returned a moment later with a badge and the documents. ‘’There you are sir, you’re cleared to carry on. You will need the badge to pass through security, good luck with your interview sir.’’ ‘’Thank you muchly’’ replied Phillip as he accelerated through the now open barrier, towards the building. He pulled his truck up to the main entrance were a valet approached his vehicle. Phillip opened the door and grabbed the badge and documents on his way out the vehicle. ‘’Good morning’’ said the valet as he passed Phillip and climbed into the truck and drove off into the parking zone, before Phillip could even reply to his good morning. Phillip approached the doors to the building and inside he could see security guards waiting. As soon as he reached the door they started to approach him. The guards began to put him through a search and check his paper work. Once finished they sent the young wolf on his way towards the reception desk at the far end of the huge lobby space.
Even before he got near the desk a wolf with eclipse black fur, had stood and was approaching him. ‘’Mr Rikka’’ he said in a loud voice. Phillip turned to the wolf and stood looking in his direction. ‘’Yeah that’s me’’ he responded. ‘’Glad to see your on time sir, it’s what we like to see. Now please follow me’’ said the wolf as he turned and walked towards a set of double doors in the corner of the room. Phillip followed the wolf with haste. ‘’Well Mr Rikka, we have assessed your paper work and would like to take you straight to the practical part of the interview’’ said the wolf. ‘’I see, what would this practical part entail exactly?’’ asked Phillip. ‘’Well it’s the shooting range tests. We want to see how precise and steady your aim is sir’’ replied the wolf. He approached a door and held it open for Phillip, and followed Phillip into the room. Before Phillip, sat a basic pistol and a long straight room with a target at the end. He approached the pistol and quickly lifted it up, aiming down its sight and releasing the entire barrel into the target. The bull’s eye on the target had been completely ripped to shreds by the barrage of bullets. ‘’Errrm well someone’s got a trigger itch’’ stated the wolf who was left stood in amazement at the young wolfs ability. ‘’Well I believe you just passed your practical there sir, well done. Now we have decided to keep you a bit closer to home with your assigned employment here’’ said the wolf. ‘’How close?’’ asked Phillip. ‘’Well we would like you to be onsite security’’ replied the wolf. ‘’I see. Well this was a quick interview’’ said Phillip. ‘’Not the first time I’ve heard that. Now I hope you’re happy with this choice, our onsite security are very well paid, we feel you are better suited to this than body guard work. Are you ok with this change?’’ ‘’I am indeed sir’’ responded Phillip. ‘’Good to hear. Now there’s someone on their way down to fetch you, they shall escort and orientate you into your new job’’ said the wolf. At that moment. there was a knock on the door and in walked a tall German Sheppard in a long trench coat and Stetson with a pair of aviator goggles around his neck. ‘’Good afternoooo…… bloody hell I can see why your sending him to us’’ he said in shock as he pointed to the target down the end of the room. ‘’Right, come on then you’’ he lead the young wolf from the room and held out his hand for a shake which Phillip returned whilst introducing himself. ‘’Pleasure to meet you Phillip, I’m Dan. Now come with me, I’ve lots to show you.’’ He began to lead Phillip down the corridor. ‘’May I ask how this has all happened so quickly?’’ requested Phillip. ‘’You may’’ responded Dan, ‘’well you see, this company do their research, and lots of it, they know more about you than you think. And they use this to speed up the employment process. No need for lengthy interviews.’’ ‘’Is that even legal?’’ asked Phillip ‘’Well somehow the companies been given access to all this info’’ responded Dan. ‘’Right first stop the uniform’’. Dan led Phillip into a locker room and passed him a pile of clothes. ‘’Put them on, I’ll wait for you outside’’ he turned to the door ‘’wait nearly forgot, locker 208, it’s yours’’ he threw the key to Phillip, who caught it in his hand and looked up to see the door closing. ’’Well better do as he asked’’ Phillip said to himself.
