His task for the day was to supervise the loading of a shipment, make sure everything was in place, and go over the different transports he had for the week. Samir found it easier to make a spreadsheet to encrypt on his phone so he didn’t miss anything. It also transferred easily into his reports that he gave to M15. Normally he’d be bouncing the task between the warehouse and checking in with Rita. But, she was on task with someone else and that left him plenty of time to get everything he needed to done. Until his phone buzzed in his pocket and he was informed Rita had been arrested. Fuck.
Everything was mostly finished and the transport for the next day had been loaded, checked over, and recorded. That made it easy to slip out and get to the jail to post bail before something happened to Remus Warden’s pregnant wife. It would be kind of sad if he got taken out over that versus getting his undercover status discovered. Seemed rather anti-climatic. He sped up, making sure not to drive too fast to get noticed and arrested himself, but fast enough to get there as quick as possible.
Samir parked the car and grabbed the money he would need from the glove compartment. It was insane to him the amount of money these people had to be able to just have an emergency fund sitting in their car. Blew his mind, but then again he never had money and most of them were born swimming in it. He moved inside the building and went straight to the counter. “Hi, I’m here for Rita Zhang-Warden.” The person took his money and signed the document verifying who was bailing her out. He was told to take a seat in the waiting area while they got her released. The Power did not listen, however. Instead he chose to pace out his nerves in front of the hard plastic chairs until he heard the doors unlock and saw Rita finally. He moved half the distance to meet her. “Are you okay?” The question came out low, laced with concern. “Let’s get you out of here. The car’s right out this way.” He motioned toward the door and offered her his arm if she needed it while they moved. There were questions he wanted to ask. Like how this happened to begin with and why was she doing any assignments in her condition. But, he held his tongue. Rita made him nervous. He was with her too much and he worried if he asked the wrong question she would start to suspect him. Instead, he waited to hear if she offered the information up without being prompted. It was better that way.
