real and true!! techno would say something like that to lighten the mood during a challenging case and dream would make it halfway through an explanation as to why an alien likely wouldn't be able to digest soda before he realizes techno is just messing with him. (also hey thank you for thinking of them i haven't been rotating them in my mind enough lately..)
after an intense encounter you can tell who was more affected because techno will be visibly shaken, energetic and chatty, piecing together what they just saw and how it relates to the bigger picture and what the next move is. but dream will just be sitting there. thousand yard stare
something about the xfiles au is i often think that when scully is faced with indisputable supernatural evidence or actual alien encounters she seems to handle it surprisingly well for a non believer, but then i think about how much she panics when someone tries to directly confront her with the things that she is having a really hard time explaining with science. and how quick she sometimes is to shove it all aside because she isn't ready to process the scarier reality. holding back from processing those traumatic events could be one reason she seems to brush off literal alien encounters that challenge her whole perception of how the world works. and i think i could totally c!dreamify this behavior in the au.. him not wanting to process anything not only because facing trauma is far too emotionally vulnerable than he's ready to be any time soon, but also because accepting that these things are real and happening to him completely out of his control would understandably break him. keeping himself armored with a certain level of apathy is his best way to cope at the moment. meanwhile techno is exasperated like "really, even with everything we've been through you still deny it??" and i think eventually as they open up to each other more, techno would realize it's not that dream doesn't believe, it's that he's not allowing himself to

yeah Lol actually in the show mulder is seen frequently if not always sleeping on his own couch, so i bet dream after finding this out would never let techno get away with teasing him for having no place to sleep when techno doesn't even sleep on a bed 😭 i think technos the kind of person who can fall asleep anywhere, reminds me of this scene that i wanted to redraw where they're lost in the woods and keeping each other warm
