Trump Wants to Build a Border Wall in Big Bend, but No One Wants it
Virtually no one, it seems, thinks a physical barrier in the region is a good idea. The Trump administration is rushing to build one anyway.
Hello everyone, I've only seen a little news about this issue recently, so I've decided to take to it here. If the proposed plan for the border wall comes into fruition 175 miles are at stake in Big Bend . This area of land is beautiful and contains a rich, bio diverse ecosystem that would all be disrupted if the Trump administration goes through with their plans.
Endangered species live here. The Big Bend is an International Dark Sky Reserve. There are archeological sites here. Small business owners in the area could be affected. I could go on. In the face of the administration's blatant disregard for environmental protections (and stripping them away), this area needs its continued protection and conservation. So much is at risk when industrial infrastructure and pollution rear it's ugly head.
If you are Texan, contact your local and state representatives about this issue. If you're not, it doesn't hurt to kick up a fuss since this area is visited and beloved by so many. The websites linked down below have useful resources, a petition, flyers to print and share, and ways to contact your representatives.
Go forth!

I asked myself this same question for over ten years. I knew I wanted to be on the whitewater, and I knew I wanted to be paddling a canoe.
The Northern Open Canoe Access Project is here to help you get started, we'll provide you with the access to the training, we will inspire you to get on the whitewater, and we'll help you get access to the equipment.
Let's start by connecting you to the Midwest paddling community, here's some links to GET YOU STARTED:
