Chatsworth House

Chatsworth House is located in Derbyshire, England. The original Tudor mansion was built in a quadrangle design in the 1560s and added to and improved throughout its history. The home serves as the seat of the Dukes of Devonshire. The property has been passed down through the Cavendish family for sixteen generations. The interior has 126 rooms, although only 30 are open to visitors. The home boasts a collection of artwork that spans 4,000 years of history, as well as the Painted Hall, the opulent staterooms, a library, and the Great Chamber with a painted ceiling. The exterior boasts woodlands, heather moorlands, a 105-acre walled garden that’s filled with sculpture, a rock garden, fountains, a greenhouse, a 1695 temple dedicated to the goddess Flora, a maze, a canal pond, and the Grand Cascade and Cascade House, which is considered by some to be one of England’s best water features. The gardens were built in phases throughout the property’s history. In the 19thcentury, the 6thduke added many elements to the property, which included an arboretum, a gatehouse, the Emperor Fountain, and many greenhouses. The Rockeries were created by piling heavy rocks on top of each other to a height of forty-five feet and a small waterfall was created to flow over it to the pond below. The two-story stables at Chatsworth are grand with a Doric column entrance, a clock tower cupola, and stalls for 80 horses. Chatsworth House is the hub of a 35,000-acre agricultural estate and includes dozens of tenanted farms and over 450 houses and flats. Chatsworth house is open to the public and offers a playground, a farmyard, a café, afternoon tea, and a gift shop.
