How has Dylan taken to becoming somewhat of a step dad to river? How is the media with him and river? Asleep is he as annoyed with Harry and famous yn and we are? How does he feel that Harry has been neglecting river?
Oh, he absolutely loves River. By the time they started dating, Dylan was at a point in his life where having a family was something he knew he wanted someday, so despite famous y/n having a daughter, he thought of her as a bonus deal. He doesn’t care she’s not biologically his; he loves her to death, and cares for her deeply.
He didn’t really think of himself as “step-dad” in the very beginning, obviously because he and famous y/n had only just started dating, but “step-dad” came along the next year, mostly because of lockdown and quarantine, and he was seeing her so much, and they had a lot of time to really bond.
The media seems to really like them, though of course he doesn’t post anything about her, and it’s mostly from what they’ve seen by fan or pap encounters. I’d say all three were papped last year when they were out for a walk around the neighborhood, and he was pushing River in her stroller, and even at one point bent down to give her her juice.
But I’m also sure the media has pinned Harry and Dylan against each other, and even though they might not totally like each other, they don’t hate each other.
Dylan wishes Harry was in the picture more, because that’s his child after all. Yeah, there’s FaceTime and phone calls since he’s been in England/Italy, but he needs to be physically around more. And it was fine for a while when famous y/n was the one saying, “So, when are you coming to see your daughter?” but when it was Dylan calling him, that kind of opened Harry’s eyes up a little bit. This conversation probably happened today.
He called from famous y/n’s phone, and he picked up on the fourth ring.
“What’s going on?”
“She called me ‘daddy’ last night.” There was a long pause, and a deep sigh heard on the other end. “I get that you found someone and you’re happy—I seriously get it—but you have obligations in other parts of the world too, and I really hate seeing my girlfriend feeling like she’s failing as a parent because her daughter called me ‘daddy’. But if I’m the one that’s around, and the one that’s providing, then what does that make me?”
Dylan could hear a woman talking in the background, and Harry mouthed “hold on”.
“Fix this, okay? I know you love her, and you care about her, but she’s two—she doesn’t know what’s going on. She’s got problems with object permanence or something because when you’re not around, it’s like you don’t exist.”
And then he hung up.
