hail mary, full of grace ✨

i’ve had this piece in my head for a while now and i’m really really happy with how it turned out!! it honestly looks even better than i was imagining :) i also got to have a lot of fun trying something new! this is Not my usual style so i was having fun just messing around, trying to make things work!

1. original sketch (very simple lol - i had a pretty clear image of what it should look like in my head and i was excited to start cutting and gluing!)

2. basic blocks of everything glued down

3. details added; i hadn’t planned on adding rocky or the hail mary but i decided to here :)

4. blank space filled in with more paper

5. (final piece above) details added with sharpie - i originally wanted to use colored pencil, but the glue and texture of the paper weren’t particularly conducive to that, so i pivoted! i had some details that i planned beforehand, and some that just struck me as i was working

squeezing in right at the last minute for day two of @mechanismswomensweek!! prompt being immortality. i think raphaella’s death is interesting in that it’s not an explicit death. it’s certainly implied, but the narrative just loses track of her after she goes through the black hole. maybe she survives on the other side. maybe she’s immortal-immortal. i dunno. but i had this mental image literally as soon as i saw the prompts list, and i’m real happy with how it turned out!

torch(bearer)

trust me to have thoughts about names and nicknames. ramble under the cut 👍 (edit) also progress pics like usual and some of me messing around with the colors :P

i’m pretty new here but i do find the torchbearer’s name really interesting. i mean as far as i can tell “the torchbearer” is his title, not name. is his name josh dun? i’m pretty sure that’s what clancy says in “overcompensate,” unless he’s referring to a different? josh dun? real-world josh dun? hm. in any case torchbearer is still a title. and i feel like i see it get treated as a name. which makes sense if his name is actually josh dun. depending on how you look at the whole thing that may get close to rpf territory. and even if it doesn’t feel like rpf it’s still kinda weird to call one guy by his made up fictional name (clancy) and the other by his whole real actual name (josh dun). so for all intents and purposes torchbearer is his name and i guess that’s cool. but what’s REALLY interesting is that then torchbearer is a whole mouthful to say so it gets shortened to just torch! (or sometimes torchie if one is getting cutesy with it. …not sure how i feel about that? but that’s not the point.) but that’s so interesting because he’s not the torch. he’s the torchbearer. the guy who bears the torch. not. the torch. interestinggggg. because idk maybe in a sense he is, also, the torch?? he kind of IS clancy’s guiding light in the darkness?? he is the golden bright spark in the middle of the night?? but like. he’s not. he’s the torchBEARER he’s the one pointing clancy toward that bright spark. he’s a guide. he’s the torchbearer.

i saw a really great fanart the other day of josh dun (the torchbearer? i don’t remember) with the caption “he leaves a lot / his name is hope” from semi-automatic. ummm. yeah. yeah that. his name is hope. (side note i love when stuff from vessel/self-titled sounds like prototype blurryface/clancy/torchbearer stuff. and i love when later albums call back to vessel/self-titled. i love it so much it’s my favorite thing ever!!)

anyways. been turning all that over. torch. bearer. the torchbearer. josh dun.
