Snippet:
Fall had gone by rather uneventfully. There was a bit of a change in their usual routine, as Petra soon traded flower picking for mushroom gathering, much to Levi’s misery.
"I'm not putting that shit in my mouth."
Petra laughed as she pushed the mushroom further in his face, earning one of his infamous nose scrunches. He was adorable when he was acting so stubborn. Petra had been doing this all her life and had never made someone ill with the ones she chose. Her father had taught her well enough.
"I would never poison you, Levi."
He was not usually one to refuse food since he knew first-hand the effects of its scarcity, but mushrooms had always been a no-go for him. As delicious as people claimed they were, Levi could never carelessly eat something that could kill you so simply.
"Not on purpose, at least," she whispered between giggles.
Levi rolled away from her, not paying any mind to her protests to return. The ones she got out between the laughing fits, that was.
"You're on your own if a bear comes," he yelled as he put more distance between them.
"Wait, there are bears in these forests?" He could sense the terror in her voice as she ran up by his side. Not that he could do much to help if a bear did actually come. But truthfully, he knew nothing about it, but she deserved it for mocking his fear of mushrooms.
"Maybe you could just stare at the bear until it goes away. I'm sure it'll be frightened."
"Stop acting like a brat," he warned her as he led her to a place where he had spotted more of those devils.

You're not my world
Levi's recklessness in battle upsets his subordinate and lover, Petra. Canon universe.
Word count: 1177
She could feel her blood boiling with rage. It appalled her, the recklessness she had just witnessed. And more than that, the nonchalance with which he handled all. Petra tried to calm herself down, squeezing her fists together until she felt her nails digging into the flesh of her palms. Anything to bring her back to reality. Behind the Walls, one second of inattention on her part could be her last. Petra focused her eyes ahead, barely picking up on the orders Eld was screaming at her. She kept insisting she was well. But one glance at her, and Petra was sure Levi knew what was in her head. She always wore her heart on her sleeve.
Terror. Blood. The stench of death. The usual routine for her, but the thought of how close she had been to losing him still plagued her.
On their way back inside the Walls, Petra felt lost in her thoughts. All she could picture ahead of her was him. Her captain recklessly attaching his hooks to the skin of a titan before checking his surroundings. Her lover getting squeezed by the abnormal seizing him in his carelessness. All in a feeble attempt to save a poor soul who they had lost already. As much as Levi tried to keep a cold exterior, Petra knew he cared deeply for each and every one of them. But had he not let rage get ahold of him, he would have seen the wounds the recruit suffered by the hand of the titan were incompatible with life.
They never meant to fall in love. And after months of denying themselves the happiness they both more than earned, all it took was a clumsy kiss in a dark hallway. The moment their lips met, they lost all their inhibitions to desire. What was all the suffering for? Why was she denying herself this when life made no sense without Levi by her side? Their romance bloomed, but they had both agreed: the mission came first.
But in reality, her heart sank every time her lover was in danger. And despite denying it, she was convinced Levi felt the same. She could see the pure terror in his eyes when she was in a titan's grasp. They had been fooling themselves when they imagined they could ever keep their feelings outside of the battlefield. But letting go of him would never be a choice.
This time, Petra even lost the feeling of relief at seeing their headquarters in the distance. Without a glance at her lover, Petra got off her horse and strolled down to her room. She knew he would be close behind her.
She barely had time to take her gear off when she heard Levi step into the room and close the door behind him. He imagined a fight was inevitable, and he tried his best to control the damage. He was certain a lover's quarrel between him and one of his subordinates would be the highlight of the Survey Corps' gossiping.
"You're mad."
"What the fuck were you thinking, Levi?"
Petra raised her voice at him louder than she had anticipated. But she could feel rage take hold of her yet again. Levi knew better than to do this.
"I'm sorry, Petra."
Petra puffed, enraged at him for lying to her. Levi was an open book to her. She knew Levi had found nothing wrong with his course of action. And perhaps that angered Petra more than his recklessness. The indifference towards his life. Towards how his death would affect the Corps. How it would affect her.
“Don’t apologize if you don’t mean it.”
Levi plopped down on her bed, focusing on his fiddling hands instead. He hated looking at the suffering that he had caused. He was aware their love did them no good out there, that it would always interfere with their work. But for once in his life, Levi was selfish. He had found something good in his life, something that he was not willing to sacrifice. But he would never hesitate in putting his life on the line if Erwin required it of him.
"You know how I feel."
Petra's face darkened in sadness, as it always did when she witnessed how little Levi thought of his life and its importance. She understood the devotion in his heart more than anyone else ever could. It was that devotion that brought them together. But Levi's life was worth everything. He was the one to bring down the last titan and free them all. And Petra thought that both as his subordinate and lover.
"We can't save them all, Levi. That's what you told me."
She can still recall her first mission outside the Walls by her captain's side. Blind with false confidence in her skills and a burning urge to do anything in her powers to save every comrade, Petra had put herself in danger for a lost cause. Levi had saved her from an untimely demise seconds before it was too late. But instead of scolding her for her recklessness, Levi taught her the most valuable lesson: she had to put her safety first if she wanted to be useful to anyone ever again. And as painful as it was, losing people over and over again, Petra tried to focus on the lives she could save.
"He was never going to make it, Levi. And you should have seen it."
"I'm just tired of seeing so much fucking death."
Levi put his head in his palms, lost and defeated. Death had surrounded him for as long as he could remember. And he just had to witness it, powerless. It was only a matter of time before he lost her, too. A glance at the devastation on her face and guilt ate at him.
“I can’t stand seeing you like this.”
Petra sat down next to him and took his hand in hers, a gesture that never failed to calm him down. Her anger dissipated when she was once again reminded of how kind her lover was and how deeply he cared for people.
"You can't throw your life away. We need you. I need you."
Levi was not her entire world, but she would always give him a part of it. At times, she felt overwhelmed with how much she could love someone.
"You could always do better, Ral."
Petra smiled sadly and caressed his cheek mindlessly. She wished she could let Levi take a glimpse through her eyes for just a second. To accept just how remarkable he was.
“Do you really think I could ever replace you?”
Levi chuckled at her response, having expected such stubbornness from her. For a reason he never comprehended, he was a lucky bastard to be loved by her. He kissed her knuckles before whispering against her soft skin- "Promise me something."
Without a second to think on it, Petra responded- "Anything."
"You'll be by my side when we kill the last titan."
Petra smiled and let her lips answer the question for her.

Can never get enough of you
Petra and Levi go on their first date.
Part two of this
Word count: 1384
Petra had been pacing in front of the restaurant for twenty minutes now, as her obsession with always being on time was getting out of hand, proved by her being half an hour early for her date. She hoped it was a date at the very least, but she was unsure of the current state of her relationship with Levi ever since he asked the big question.
Petra tried to calm her fluttering heart, but anxiety took hold of her at the secrecy behind Levi`s actions. Despite living together and spending most of their days working side by side to get the tea shop in proper shape and up to Levi`s standards before the big opening, he had insisted she meet him in front of the restaurant that evening. She tried to keep the ugly thoughts at bay, that her excitement had scared him away, and she stopped herself as she was about to indulge in the ‘disgusting’ habit of biting her nails, as Levi had nicely put it the first time he noticed her doing it.
While she got busy pacing around in circles in front of the restaurant, she missed Levi making his way to her with a bouquet of yellow roses in his lap, frowning at the nervous wreck in front of his eyes. He had been a nervous wreck in the days leading up to him working up the courage to finally taking the next step in their relationship. Levi cleared his throat to get her attention, and one look at the flowers in his hands, and Petra blushed furiously at the sweet and yet uncharacteristic gesture from her former captain. She stifled a giggle as Levi handed the flowers to her without addressing a word to her, barely taking a glimpse at her while he did so, so in character, for the man she came to love over the years.
"How did you know they’re my favorite flowers?"
Feeling both guilty for eavesdropping and sorrowful at the memory behind it, Levi turned his eyes away from her as he mumbled- "I overheard you telling Eld one morning before breakfast."
It was never his intention to spy on his subordinates, but one certain conversation about a man courting Petra had caught his ear, and Levi got busy cleaning the dirt off his boot, conveniently close to the kitchen door.
"Oh."
Levi cursed at his choice to bring up their dead teammate that Petra still missed dearly years later as he was trying to win her over, and feeling the atmosphere tense up, Levi signaled for her to enter the restaurant. After the waiter sat them down at their table, he could still feel Petra was still anxious, so he tried his best to lighten up the mood.
"You look like you`ve been holding in a shit for a week."
He regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth, but to his surprise, as soon as Petra took in his answer, she burst into laughter, getting the attention of everyone in the restaurant. Levi could feel his cheeks redden at the unwanted eyes on them, but he was grateful Petra never had an issue with his shitty humor.
"You always knew how to treat a girl, Levi."
Levi cringed at his awkwardness, despite Petra`s subtle reassurance that he was doing well. He wished he still had Erwin by his side to help him through courting Petra, and in desperate moments, Levi found himself wishing he could talk to even Hange about this. Even Falco was doing a better job in flirting with Gabi.
"I`ll take you to a pharmacy for a second date."
Petra blushed at the mention of a second date, and she tried her best to hide the grin behind the restaurant menu she was holding in her hands. She tried to contain her excitement, but despite how awkward the night seemed to be going, Petra loved every second of it.
"Thank you for the flowers, it was very sweet of you."
Levi got busy flipping through the menu without taking an actual look at it, anything to avoid eye contact with Petra. He liked her, he thought she liked him as well, and they were on their first date, but he was still feeling embarrassed about being sweet to her.
"It was... you know, whatever."
Petra just smiled at him, understanding the meaning behind his words, and with one look at her, Levi melted. Ever since they got closer, Levi wondered what he did to deserve her. The ugly thoughts that she deserved so much more than he could ever offer her wormed their way into his mind, but for reasons he could never understand, Petra was determined to stay by his side.
"How long has it been since your last date?"
Her question took him by surprise, and Levi tried his best to avert the attention back to her- "How long has it been for you?"
Petra found it strange he avoided her question, but she tried not to dwell on it. Ever since she joined his squad, dating other men lost its appeal for her. Even if she never expected her and Levi to be more than friends while they were still soldiers, she was content with just having him by her side.
"Ages ago, before I joined your squad. I never found the time to date after that. I had a hardass captain who made us clean even on our free days."
Petra rolled her eyes with a grin plastered on her face- "Can you imagine?"
Levi chuckled at Petra’s exaggerations. He never made them clean on their free days. Them doing a shitty job and having to use their free time to fix it was not his fault.
"Sounds like a shit."
To his surprise, Petra reached out her small hand to him, and he reluctantly took it in his. She smiled at him, and Levi`s turmoil dissipated.
"No, he was the kindest, sweetest man ever."
Petra caressed his hand with her thumb, and he could feel goosebumps forming at the contact with her soft skin. He squeezed her hand and got back to flipping through his menu, and Petra could feel her face heat up when she realized he never let go of her.
"It`s my first date."
Petra was taken aback at his answer, but if she looked back on it, Levi had never shown any interest in someone over the years. She had always assumed that it was the military lifestyle keeping him from getting close to someone, but she never knew much about his Underground life. She just hoped she could give him a good memory of his first date.
"What are your thoughts on it so far?"
Levi smirked at her question, never missing a chance to tease her. He loved the playful relationship he was able to have with her over the years. Hange had always told Levi he and Petra would be a great couple, and while he never bothered to give it an answer, he agreed with them.
"It`s decent enough. The company`s not shit, at least."
Petra rolled her eyes at his answer, and when her hold of his hand loosened, he just squeezed her harder.
"It`s perfect, Petra. Don`t worry."
They spent most of the date chatting about the upcoming business they were going to be running together, and to Petra`s surprise, Levi opened up to her about his past as well. After dinner ended, he could feel Petra`s slight disappointment that their date was coming to an end, and the last thing he wanted was to make her sad. And if he were being honest, he was not ready for the date to come to an end either. He proposed they take a walk through the park Petra spent her afternoons reading in, and she agreed with a large smile on her lips.
They walked hand in hand, and Levi did not miss the attention Petra was getting. The tight dress she chose for their date was hugging her forms, and Levi agreed with the people passing by them: he was a lucky bastard.
"You look beautiful."
Petra took him by surprise as she leaned down and gave him a small kiss on his cheek- "You`re not too bad yourself, Levi."

Slightly NSFW
Petra had been pacing in front of the house for twenty minutes now, ignoring the annoyed sighs coming from her best friend. She was dreading going to the party, having been content with celebrating by herself with a bottle of wine in hand and Netflix playing in the background. But Nifa insisted she couldn`t celebrate finishing their first year of med school in such a sad way. It wasn`t that Petra hated parties, quite the opposite. People always told Petra that she`s a ray of light. But HE was going to be there.
Levi Ackerman. Her rival. Her archnemesis. And unfortunately for Petra, the smartest and most handsome man she had ever seen. Petra couldn`t help herself but roll her eyes at her luck. For as pretty as he was, Levi was equally annoying. Her smug face annoyed Petra, making her want to punch him and kiss him at the same time. His careless attitude and the low effort he put into studying while also being among the best people in her year made Petra dislike him. She was pretty sure he felt the same way about her, as they constantly bickered every time they had the chance to interact. Petra groaned again at the thought of running into Levi, and she was sure she was getting called "pipsqueak" again.
"Petra, as nice as this sidewalk is, it forgot to offer me a drink."
Petra turned towards Nifa, with a spiteful look on her face- "You heard him yourself! He told Hange he would be at the party." She couldn`t believe her best friend was so insensitive as to ignore her suffering.
Nifa grinned, amused by her best friend`s attempt to hide the massive crush she had on the "bad boy" of their year. Levi was quite the player, switching dates almost weekly. Nifa never told Petra, but she noticed their trips to get ice cream and wine in the middle of the night were related to a girl posting Levi on their Instagram story.
"Oh, yes, the mean hottie. Who knows, maybe bad boy came alone tonight"- Nifa said while winking at Petra.
Petra gasped, faking being offended at the thought of being Levi`s date. She would never admit to Nifa that she found the most annoying man she knew extremely attractive- "He`s not even pretty, Nifa!"
Nifa grinned, amused by the act Petra tried to keep up. She got a smirk on her face at her next thought- "Then you won`t mind seeing his arm around a pretty blonde tonight, right?
Petra couldn`t help the annoyed look on her face, and when Nifa burst into laughter at her reaction, she made up her mind. She was going to prove to both Nifa and Levi that he was irrelevant to her. She gathered the courage and made her way to the door- "Are you ready to go, or do you want to ask the sidewalk out for a date?"
When she made her way into the house, the first thing Petra was met by was Levi`s beautiful, stupid, smug face. She cursed under her breath, and Levi got amused at the reaction his mere presence got out of her. He didn`t dislike Petra, no, quite the opposite. She was beautiful and smart, and he genuinely enjoyed being in her presence. But getting her riled up over the smallest things was amusing. He raised his drink towards her, and Petra just rolled her eyes and turned her back towards him.
"The nerve on that guy! I haven`t been here for one minute, and he already ruined my night."
Nifa merely laughed at Petra`s antics and pulled her by the hand- "I think Miss Grumpy over here needs a drink in her hand."
Levi blocked out Hange`s monologue about the latest articles she read, letting Erwin handle his girlfriend, and he let his sight rest on the petite ginger. His eyes hungrily went up and down her alluring figure, and they stopped to admire the way her tight dress hugged her wide hips and her behind. It wasn`t often that he got to admire her this way, as the loose white coat she wore in class didn`t do Petra`s body any justice. Hange obnoxious voice pulled Levi out of his fantasies- "Earth to Shorty, do you copy?"
Levi slapped their hand away from his shoulder, annoyed at the interruption. "Tsk, don`t put your germs on me, Four-Eyes."
Erwin chuckled, amused at the banter between his best friend and his girlfriend, which was proving to become a daily habit- "That`s not a nice way to refer to my girlfriend, Levi."
Levi shrugged and finished his drink in one go- "Alright, Brows, I`m going to get another drink."
Petra was taking a sip of her beer when she felt a warm breath on her ear- "I`m surprised they let a pipsqueak in here. Isn`t it past your bedtime already?"- Levi whispered in her ear, and Petra was sure he had a smirk on his stupid face. Petra closed her eyes, trying to form a sentence, but her mind was fuzzy from the closeness. She tried to pull her sleeve lower to hide the goosebumps forming on her skin.
"Are you sure you`re not a student at the clown academy, Ackerman?"
Levi chuckled, happy Petra was feeling feisty tonight. Teasing her was becoming one of his favorite day-to-day activities. "Good one, Ral." He took her empty beer bottle from her hands and passed another one to her- "Congratulations, by the way."
Petra raised her eyebrow, not used to hearing words of praise out of his mouth. She expected an insult following this, and was surprised when Levi merely took a sip of his beer- "Are you ironic?"
"Relax, Shrimp. I meant it."
Petra could feel her cheeks get red from anger, and she tried to keep herself from shouting- "Okay, Levi, you`re only a few centimeters taller than me. You`re the last person who should call me short."
Levi leaned in again, to whisper in her ear- "And yet I still get a reaction out of you every time."
Petra gulped, intoxicated by his scent invading her nostrils. She could feel herself growing agitated by his proximity, and she needed to get away from him.
"I need to use the restroom."
Petra almost ran up to the bathroom, ignoring the frown on Levi`s face or the look of concern on Nifa`s. She splashed her face with water and closed her eyes. Petra cursed at herself and her inability to stay away from Levi. She couldn`t lie to herself anymore: she liked him. Petra was trying to gather her thoughts when she heard the bathroom door open, and she gasped when the last person she wanted to see at that moment walked into the room. In her nervousness, she forgot to lock the door behind her, and she groaned at her luck. Levi seemed too preoccupied with drinking his beer to check his surroundings, and Petra waited for him to notice her presence.
Levi just stared at her with a curious look on his face, and Petra put her hands on her hips, annoyed at the apology that wasn`t coming out of his mouth.
"What the hell do you think you are doing? I could have been on the toilet!"
Levi shrugged, not showing any kind of remorse for his mistake- "Right. I didn`t see you."
Petra gasped at the nonchalance in his voice and tried to calm herself down. She wasn`t going to let him ruin her night. But when Levi was content with just staring at her, Petra was starting to get impatient. She pointed at the door- "Well, get out?"
Levi nodded, and Petra frowned when she heard the doorknob turn, followed by a series of curses leaving his mouth. Levi hit the door in his attempt to get it open, and Petra plopped down on the toilet seat, not believing the turn her night was taking. Levi hit the door again before turning to Petra- "It`s jammed."
Petra rolled her eyes, feeling on edge from being stuck in a room with the object of her desires- "I got that, thank you." Levi ignored her comment and sat down on the floor, and when he noticed the curious look on Petra`s face, he patted on the spot next to him.
Petra felt her cheeks go red at his invitation to sit so close to him, feeling tempted to give in to her desires and make a move on him. Her fear of being rejected got the better of her, and she tried to remain as rational as possible.
"Can`t you call Hange or Erwin to get us out of here?"
Levi looked through his pockets before cursing under his breath- "I don`t have my phone with me."
Petra groaned, the response being the one she dreaded the most - "Me neither, my bag is with Nifa."
Levi took another sip of his drink and pointed the bottle to her. She shook her head no, trying to resist the urge to put her lips where his had been mere seconds ago.
"I guess you`re stuck with me until someone comes around."
They stayed in silence, with Levi focusing on his drink while Petra analyzed every detail of her surroundings. She did everything she could to keep her eyes away from him, but a few minutes into it, she gave in. Petra let her eyes roam, admiring his neatly cut raven black hair that she wished she could run her fingers through, his grey eyes that she always found a blue tint in, resting her sight on his muscular arms. Despite his short stature, Petra knew he was well built from the nights she spent stalking his social media and thirsting over his beach photos.
Levi pretended not to notice her staring, but when he saw her biting her lip, he couldn`t contain the smirk forming on his face.
"I prefer blondes."
Petra could feel herself growing red, embarrassed at being caught, so the only option she could think of was to try to deny it. The room was starting to get hotter, and she could feel Levi`s eyes on her. She gulped, trying to think of anything to get her out of the situation- "As if I would ever look at you."
Levi`s smirk grew larger, and when he got up from his spot to make his way to her, Petra`s eyes widened. It was hard enough to think of a good excuse without him being close to her.
"Oh, but you do."
Petra gasped, not expecting Levi to be this direct, and she could swear her face had never been redder in her entire life.
"You think I don`t notice the way you look at me?" Levi crouched down on her level, and Petra gulped when his face was so close to hers he could feel his breath on her lips. Petra`s sight drifted to his lips, and Levi didn`t miss her gesture.
"The way you bite your lip when you think I`m not looking at you?"- he told her while he ran his thumb over it. Petra merely stared back at him, too caught up in his spell to formulate any words. At the sight of her flushed cheeks, her parted lips, and dilated pupils, Levi couldn`t help himself anymore and captured her lips in a messy kiss. Petra closed her eyes and rested her hands on his shoulder, pulling him closer to her.
Levi pulled her down on the floor with him and wrapped his arms around her, running one of his hands up and down the small of her back. Petra moaned into the kiss, opening her mouth to let his tongue in, and he wasted no time. Levi devoured her mouth until they were both out of breath, and when they pulled away from one another, Petra opened her eyes to be met by a smug smile painted on his face.
"Forget it. You fucking suck."
Levi chuckled and merely pulled her in for another kiss. When he bit her lip, Petra whimpered at the pleasure he was making her feel, and she eagerly let her tongue explore his mouth. She gasped when Levi pulled her to sit on his lap, and she moaned at the feeling of his erection against her core. She ground herself on him in an attempt to get some relief and let one of her hands roam around his erection. Her eyes widened when her hand stumbled upon a phone in his pocket, and Levi could feel her smile against his lips.
She pulled back to look at him with a smile on her face and kissed his ear lobe before whispering- "There`s nothing wrong with the door, is there?"

I wish I was the moon
Petra has an important decision to make before the 57th expedition.
Word count: 1359
Levi groaned at the sight of a silhouette in the distance, cursing at his luck for the night. It seemed someone else had discovered his place of solitude, keeping him away from the ritual he kept close to his heart ever since losing them. Every night before an expedition was always theirs. He could still recall the first time they witnessed the vastity of the sky before their eyes, and Isabel`s hopeful stare would always be etched in his heart. All the plans they had together, the places they planned to see, it was all lost in a matter of minutes.
Levi visibly relaxed as he got closer to the ledge, getting sight of amber hair shining in the moonlight. He stopped in his tracks, seizing the opportunity to admire the fiery woman, lost in her thoughts. Levi loved Petra for the passion burning in her, but he had to admit that serenity suited her. He wished nothing more than to offer her a happy, quiet life once they both put down their swords for good. But until then, he had nothing to offer her. Nothing but stolen kisses in dark halways and sweet promises as they got lost in each other. They had sacrificed enough for the sake of humanity, and he planned to hold faith accountable for it in the end.
Petra was startled by Levi`s sudden presence behind her, putting an abrupt end to her incoherent train of thought. She could not help but feel anxious at the thought of her possible demise and at the choice she had to make that night. Levi`s hot breath on her ear made her shiver as he leaned down to whisper- "Looks like someone stole my spot."
Petra put her hand on her chest in an attempt to calm her fluttering heart. She hated Levi`s habit of creeping up on her and his argument that the issue was not his smoothness but Petra herself, who constantly had her head in the clouds.
"Captain, you`re as quiet as a cat."
Levi chuckled at her remark, half amused, half appalled his subordinate would ever compare him to a dirty, flea-infested animal. His thoughts took a grim turn towards uncleanness, and Petra smiled knowingly at the grimace forming on her lover`s face.
With a smirk on her face and the most dramatic voice she could muster, Petra laid on the ground- "I know, so rude of me, comparing you to such an appalling creature."
Petra yelped as Levi leaned down and flicked her forehead- "Don`t be a smartass." Not that he would ever admit it to her, but Levi was fond of Petra`s childish behavior. With the gloominess hanging over them, Petra`s optimistic nature was a breath of fresh air. And Levi knew he would do anything to protect that side of her.
He sat down next to her, not missing the subtle shift in her position, as Petra`s thigh was now touching his. He playfully ran his hand up and down on it, and he could feel Petra melt in his hold. While this was not in his original plans, Levi could never resist her temptation. It never crossed his mind that laying with someone would ever feel like paradise.
He leaned down and took her earlobe between his teeth, giving it a slight nibble- "I half expected you to come look for me."
Petra moaned softly, half tempted to give in to the temptation and make love to her captain until they both ran out of breath. She laid back down on the ground with a silly grin plastered on her face. She had been alive for 22 years, but one look at the night sky, and she was as astonished as the first time she could remember looking at the stars.
"I wanted to see the stars again." In case I don`t make it back tomorrow, she wanted to add but never did.
One glimpse at the sky, and Levi could not help but agree with her choice for the night. While he loved taking her, stargazing with Petra felt like the perfect way for their possible last night alive. Levi was never religious, but at times, he found himself wondering how his afterlife would look. He hoped he would have a night sky to look at. And a pretty ginger to be by his side.
"Do you think we`re alone out there?"
Levi shrugged, indifferent by the idea of life existing outside of the hellhole they were currently living in. He had to set them all free from the cage humanity found itself in before he could dream of life existing anywhere else, be it beyond the Walls or up in the sky.
"Fuck knows."
Petra just smiled at his predictable answer. Being with her made Levi more gentle, but she could never fix his crassness. Not that she wished to.
"Always so charming, captain."
"You love my dirty mouth."
They shared a knowing look before Petra focused her attention on the stars again. She felt uneasy about him being by her side when she had an important decision to make. But she could never turn him away, as every second spent by his side was a precious one. She felt a lump forming in her throat at her thoughts, but with the chance of this night being the last they had, Petra voiced out her worries- "Will you still remember me when I`m gone?"
Petra`s question hurt him harder than any titan ever could. He could feel the sour taste of bile in his throat at the idea of her beautiful eyes devoid of life. Levi could sense his whole team was worried about the uncertainty of tomorrow`s mission, and it ate him alive that he had to keep such vital information away from them. But no matter how much he cared for them, he would never go against Erwin`s orders. Levi would put his life on the line to vouch for his team, but it was not enough to convince his superior.
"Don`t talk shit like that. Maybe I`ll even bite the dust before you do."
Petra laughed loudly at his answer, a gesture that disturbed Levi even more. Her captain was silly sometimes. The idea that she would outlive him never crossed her mind, not even as a joke. She was resigned to the possibility of her early demise, but she was certain Levi would have a long life. "That could never happen, Levi. You`ll be the last man standing."
While he always loved his name on her lips, Levi could not help but detest it that night. He wished he could stop her, but no words came out.
"You`re our hope. You`ll free everyone one day."
Levi could notice the faint tears in her eyes, and he ran his thumb up and down on her soft cheek. He got closer to her, and on the verge of putting his lips on hers, he whispered - "What`s on your mind?"
A million thoughts ran through her mind at that moment. Her discovery had her torn for days now. But with uncertainty clouding her judgment, she needed more time. But fate was never kind to them. With "I’m pregnant" on the tip of her tongue, Petra answered- "I`m just worried about the mission."
Petra closed her eyes, unable to look at the distrust that her answer was most likely to get from him. She could already imagine the hurt on his face as he asked her- "And when did you plan on telling me about this?", but she just needed more time to think. While she would love to have a child with Levi, she also believed in her mission. And the last thing she wanted was to abandon her squad on the eve of their most vital expedition yet.
She brushed her lips with his, and Levi`s breath hitched at the feeling of her warm breath on his skin. She kissed him softly, pressing her lips to his, putting all of her love into it. As she deepened the kiss, Petra promised herself she would have an answer to her question before the sun rose.

She was oblivious to the sights her beauty drew to her, giving Levi the perfect opportunity to marvel at the nymph across from him. He took in every move she made, committing to memory the way she loosened her honey-colored hair, which fell to her shoulders, or the way the girl bit her bottom lip in concentration as she rang up the customers of the small vegetable stand. She looked up briefly, and Levi locked eyes with her big, amber-colored ones as she gave him a shy smile. Her fate was sealed at that moment: she was everything Levi had been looking for. The missing piece from his life. Levi closed his eyes, imagining the blood flowing from the blade on his wrist as he plunges his knife in her heart, the light leaving her eyes as the fear on her face shifted to agony.
The last girl barely saturated Levi`s thirst. He wondered if Erwin ever suspected the activities that filled up Levi`s nights and if he was turning a blind eye to keep his most valuable soldier. Sometimes, he imagined the scandal that would ensure if he ever got caught. Humanity`s strongest soldier and also the most notorious criminal Trost ever had. Levi did follow in his uncle`s footsteps, after all.
Killing in the Underground was natural. He couldn`t even remember how many lives his hand took. Even his uncle gave up on him after the first time he found eight-year-old Levi crouched over the body of a young woman, his hands stained with her blood. Levi tried to keep his urges at bay when Erwin brought him up to the surface, putting all his rage and needs in slicing up titan flesh, but it lacked the intimacy he felt when he was in the same room as his prey. Nothing could replace the moment when his victims realized there was no way out for them.
From that day, Levi kept a watchful eye on his prey, learning every detail of her routine, but still keeping a safe distance from the girl. His small fantasy kept replaying in his mind day after day, of her tied to a chair as he prepared his blades to slice up her soft skin.
Climbing up to her bedroom became a routine in Levi`s days and nights. He knew everything her room had to say about her. He knew which book was her favorite by how worn out it was and how her clothes smelled like. At times, he felt so drawn to her he would linger through the night, watching her sleeping form for hours. His hand would slip to the blade in his pocket, wondering if the devastation on his father`s face as he found the light of his life sliced up in her bed would be better than the uncertainty he put the families through, as Levi disposed of all the bodies behind the Wall.
One afternoon, she came out of her house alongside three tall men, laughing with them, jokingly hitting one of them in their shoulder. Levi felt himself burning up with jealousy, his stomach was in knots, and against his better judgment, he started following the small group to the nearest tavern. Levi sat down at the bar, pretending to busy himself with a newspaper, positioning himself so he could steal glances at his small ginger, caught up in a conversation with her friends. His heart almost jumped out of his chest when Petra approached him so she could order her drink, and it took everything Levi had not to touch her. When she took out her pouch, she realized she was short on money when Levi told the bartender he would be covering for her.
“Wait, are you sure?”
Levi didn`t look at her as he pulled a few coins out of his pocket- “Don`t worry about it, just enjoy your drink.”
She eventually gave Levi a big smile and thanked him for the drink. When Petra started making her way back to her friends, Levi got out of his place and stormed out of the tavern. He couldn`t wait any longer. The image of her dead eyes plagued Levi`s days and nights. He needed to make his way to the cabin and get everything ready for his guest.
When the night finally came, Levi posted himself across from her house, waiting for his oblivious victim to fall into his arms. He pulled the hood on his face when the door opened, and the conversation he overheard was both amusing and sorrowful.
“Petra, love, maybe you should have told Oluo to come to pick you up. Too many young girls have been disappearing lately.”
Petra waved her father off, confident nothing would ever happen to her- “I`ll be fine, daddy, don`t worry. It`s just a short walk.”
Her father wrapped his arms around her and kissed her cheek- “I would be dead if something happened to you.”
“Nothing of the sort is going to happen to me, dad.”
Oh, my dove, maybe you should have listened to your father`s warning.
Used to living in the shadows, it was easy for Levi to tail her without her even noticing his presence creeping up on her. Petra struggled in his hold as she felt a hand across her mouth, stopping the air from reaching her lungs. She tried to bite or scratch or hit him, anything to get out of his hold, but as everything started going black, she knew there was no chance for her. I was wrong, dad. I`m sorry.
Levi covered her unconscious form and put her on his horse as he sped up towards the small cabin he kept for entertaining his most special guests. He was bursting up with excitement over the prospect of spending his night in the presence of the most perfect woman he had ever laid his eyes upon. Levi was going to take his time with her so that her death would not be in vain. He was going to take every bit of pleasure he could out of their time together.
After he tied Petra to the blood-stained wooden chair, Levi took a moment to admire her beauty. He ran his fingers through the ginger locks before tracing her plump lips with his thumb, thinking how it was a shame such beauty would be wasted in a matter of hours. How her pretty face would fall victim to decay.
The images in his mind shifted to how their life together would look like, how her sleeping sun-soaked form would look like in his bed every morning, on how he would wake her up with a kiss on her cheek. Levi would prepare her a cup of tea and her favorite dish for breakfast, and she would tell him all about the clients she had to deal with daily. Levi was brought back to reality by a groaning coming from the unconscious ginger, and against everything his instincts urged him to do, Levi made up his decision. Petra was going to live. And she would be his.
Levi shook her awake, and Petra groaned as she started to regain consciousness. She felt like her head would explode, and she couldn`t comprehend why a strange man was urging her to wake up. As memories of her night came flooding back, Petra yelled, trying to get away from her kidnapper. Levi waited for her to calm down as he tried to assure her that she was safe. When Petra stopped yelling, he approached her again, as he took her hand in his and caressed it.
“I followed the bastard here, but he ran away when he heard me approaching. Did he hurt you?”
Petra`s mind went blank as she tried to comprehend how lucky she had been. She looked into Levi`s eyes and saw nothing but concern, and the gruff-looking man in front of her became her hero. Petra threw herself in his arms, and while it was the last thing he expected, Levi didn`t think twice before reciprocating her gesture.
“No. Oh, thank the Goddesses you were here!”
Petra thanked Levi over and over again, wrapping her arms so tight around his body he nearly fell out of breath. He took Petra up in his arms and carried her to his horse to return his woman to his father. For the moment. He was sure he was in Heaven. He could see the relief and appreciation in Petra`s eyes as she told him he saved her life over and over again, and her father threw his arms around Levi the first chance he got.
Levi ignored the older man staining his cape with his tears as he threw his arms around Levi once Petra made her way back to the house- “My son, I owe you my life. Please, come back for dinner tomorrow evening. It`s the least I could do for you.”
Levi accepted the invitation and promised Petra`s father he would brief the Military Police the first chance he got. He just happened to be in the area as he saw the petite ginger`s misfortune of being chosen as the next victim of the newest killer plaguing their city. While they didn`t find any evidence in the cabin, the one Levi made sure to clean before waking Petra up, the Military Police still promised they would not treat this lightly, and it took everything Levi had not to laugh at their empty words.
He bought Petra flowers before coming to her house, and he didn`t miss the slight blush painting her cheeks as he put them in her arms. Petra`s father thanked Levi over and over again throughout dinner, telling him he was a blessing in their lives, and if Levi had any decency in him, he would have left right then. But no. Levi stayed and talked to Petra for hours and didn’t hesitate to accept the dinner invitation for next week.
Levi brought her flowers every time, and after the fourth dinner at her place, Petra asked him if he would like to accompany her to a picnic in the woods. They spent most of the afternoons lying on the blanket, with Levi listening to Petra talk about her childhood and how much she missed her mother, who passed away when she was a teenager. Levi shared a bit about his past, letting Petra know he grew up in the Underground, but realizing it must have been hard for him, she switched the conversation to his time in the Survey Corps and how he became Humanity`s Strongest Soldier.
Throughout their conversations, Levi could notice Petra`s sight swift to his lips from time to time, and while she was in the middle of telling him about her favorite dessert, Levi captured her mouth in a hungry kiss. Despite being taken by surprise, Petra reciprocated, being convinced that Levi was the greatest man she could ever be with.
Being Levi`s lover was hard, as she had to say goodbye to him with every expedition that he risked his life in, but Petra was the luckiest woman alive. Her lover was spoiling her with his attention and love. Every moment Levi got away from the military, he spent in her arms. After six months of dating, Levi announced to her he had a surprise for her, and he blindfolded her as he took her to the small apartment they would be moving in together.
Petra loved Levi more than she had ever loved anyone before, but doubt started making its way into her heart as evidence kept piling up over the months spent together. Such as the bloodstains she kept finding on his clothes as she washed them, after being fairly certain titan blood should have evaporated. Or the nights she woke up to an empty bed, as her lover claimed to have taken a walk outside to help with his insomnia. But no. She was being paranoid. Her Levi was the sweetest man she had ever met. But she had to ask. She needed to be sure.
Petra was lost in her thoughts as she played around with the food on her plate. She had just discovered another bloodstain on her lover`s cravat. Levi`s voice pulled her out of her thoughts- “You haven’t even touched your food. What’s going on?”
She sighed, unsure if she should even word it to Levi, but she knew the answer already. There was no way the kind man she had been dating would hurt people.
“Levi… do you have something to tell me?”
Levi sighed as he listened to Petra voice out her worries, all while pulling his knife out of his pocket.
